Post Floor Material guage
What gauge are you guys using for the aluminum on your floors? I'm almost finished up building my 17x54 and want do weld in some floors. My boat is 54 at bottom with 5 stringers. I don't want to floor to flex, especially enough to bend or sag. I was thinking .100g but my boat builder buddy said he wouldn't touch anything under .125. That just seems like a lot of extra weight if i can get by thinner. I did have an old go-devil boat that when I removed the foam from the floor sagged and flexed bad! But If i remember correctly it was super thin possibly .080. Any help?

The weight difference ain't really significant between 125 and 100, you ain't talking but like 20 lbs or so for a floor sized sheet

Yea that was my original thought when we built it so I went .125 on everything...console, boxes, catwalks, poling platform, and huge front deck so adding all that weight, safe to assume a few hundred pounds, Im kind of scraping the barrel as far as weight goes. Most likely everyone will say .125 though and ill wind up tacking on a few more pounds lol

Most boat builders put 6 or more stringers in a 54" wide boat. With only 5, you will need to go .125 to keep it from flexing.

I used .100 gauge on all my decks, floor and side seat. I built mine with weight in mind. The difference in a 4x12 sheet is 26 lbs. Mine is 17x48 with 5 "hat section" ribs with 3 cross braces that are flush mounted. I went with a 3/16 bottom due to where I hunt. I have no flex in my floor. The .100 gauge is fully welded out and stitched welded every foot to the 5 ribs.

Thanks guys. Went ahead and played it safe and went .125. Easier to weld and like boat dr said no worrying about flex. Thanks for all that replied.

Think he said he already went with .125. IMO anything less than that flexes too much. I hate a floor that flexes. No sense in it.
