what type of anchor do you use to winch off of?
I have a winch on my rig and have used it a few times to pull my ass out of trouble but i have yet to try it when there is nothing to winch off of. What type and size anchors have you guys used to winch off of when all you have is mud? I figure the Fluke style would work best but just looking for ideas on size and type....

Its hit or miss... I've winched my dangforth back to the boat 3 times without moving an inch...
Pull Pall makes an anchor designed to winch from and aid in recover I remember when I was off-roading a bunch they claimed it to work real well... Never saw one in action though.
I just know my dangforth was winched back to the boat 3 times and I had to position anchor accordingly so it didn't just drag back in the mud (IE. a clump of grass or log etc.)

it works well in sand or mud but usually needs two people to get it out of the boat

where do they sell those at? I might wanna pick one up. We just use a 25 lb river anchor off the big boat. But it slips a lil sometimes. That one would work better for sure.

Re: what type of anchor do you use to winch off of?
Best idea I saw was a buddy's. He took a 6' T-post, a 5' piece of 2" pipe, and a short length of chain with a shackle or quick link (about 16-18"). cut a 1/2" x 2" notch in the pipe about 6-8" from the top. make a loop out of the chain & shackle. To use it, drive the pipe into the ground 6-12" drive the T-post in the ground @ a 45 deg angle and put the top of the post into the notch in the pipe. Loop the chain around the pipe and hook winch cable to it. When you pull, the pipe leans against the T-post which keeps it from pulling over. Cheap and effective.

Pull pal looks like it will work, but for $500 ill pass. It looks like something similar can be made for alot less.

If I remember correctly they make one that is ATV sized which should be just right for a boat. Cost was around $250 I think. Still not very cheap but not $500 either.
