 Re: ? About merc conversion
It's a great trim. But for you to upgrade, you'll need to swap the mounting bracket, not just the trim. The mounting bracket is about half of the cost.
Depending on how long you plan to keep the motor should determine if its worth it.

They are on sale right now. Dont know when the price will go up, but if you are considering upgrading, now is a good time to do so. http://www.mudbuddy.com/opencart/index. ... uct_id=234

 Re: ? About merc conversion
The merc is an awesome upgrade & is much better. You'll love it. But you have to decide if an $800 investment is worth it at this point. If your motor had a Thompson unit, your motor is already probably 5 years old. IMO, The merc trim will not add much more resale value when selling it used. If you plan to keep your motor another 2-3+ years, then I'd go mercury. If you think you could be selling it in a year or so, Thompson may be a better option. I think the Thompson trim was like $200-250.

I'm really fond of my MB don't reckon I'll sell it anytime soon. Just wanted to make sure the 800 would hold up!

So...your review (since this is in the review section) is that the Thompson is not a very good trim to have?

On a scale 1 to 10, 1 the worst 10 the best. I'd say it's about a 7. It did a good job while it lasted, I just think it was the wrong application to begin with. And when you pay 5k for something all of the parts like the trim should last longer than 7 years
