Frank, did you have a tall or short transom on your war eagle with the 23? LS or SS motor?

 Re: Backwaterinc.com - you're welcome.
Do you beleive that is a better/faster setup than a tall transom and a LS? Im still on the fench about transom choice.

 Re: Backwaterinc.com - you're welcome.
As far as speed, I believe an LS motor on a tall transom boat gives the same speed as an SS motor on a short transom boat. I also know an SS motor is much easier to drive then an LS motor. The shorter driveshaft makes the torque steer much less noticeable.

 Re: Backwaterinc.com - you're welcome.
I ran the motor just briefly on my boat. The motor is great. Comes right to the surface and handles awesome. I've only been able to ride in the deep current water of the Ohio River but it was great. I'm running it on a Heavy Southfork 1748. Welded floor, welded side panels and welded in gun box, full tank of gas and cooler. Ran 21. I'm 225lb. I put in another 325+lbs and still got 19mph. I'm pleased with this and told I should gain a little as the motor has time to break in and loosen up. Happy Customer and dealing with Arlon and his guys has been pleasure.

Is that a flat bottom or a MV hull?

 Re: Backwaterinc.com - you're welcome.
So this spring I'm picking up a 1742 flat bottom not sure on total weight of the boat, I'm putting a 35hp backH2O ss or ls on it. What would be a good guess of speeds on it. My self I'm 145# and with my buddy he is around 190#.

 Re: Backwaterinc.com - you're welcome.
I would expect around 23 or so or so with just you and no load. Assuming your set up is good and your boat hull. My 1854 with 1/8 hull does 21-22 with minimal load.

 Re: Backwaterinc.com - you're welcome.
I currently have pods that were custom made on the boat when it was built. I'm being told that these are welded perfectly since that are flush with the bottom but have a slight increase angle up at the rear of the pod. I have noticed that the boat wake that makes a V behind the boat is hitting very near the prop and cav plate. I wonder if this disturbed water causing interferences and robbing me of performance. Before the Swomp 35 I had a Gatortail on the same boat but with the surface drive having the shorter shaft, this was never an issue. Should I cut off these pods?? I'll try to upload video later. Thanks

Doesn't matter if you're buying a prop or a 35hp longtail, you can't go wrong by going with Back Water Inc.

 Re: Backwaterinc.com - you're welcome.
Here's my new rig!! I've been out twice and yesterday I got a good feel for the new motor. Ran some shallow phragmite stump infest waters and this thing just went. Then I got intentionally stuck and I was able to power out if it. Haven't GPS'd it yet but it seems run good and a hair faster than my 9 hp GDLT that I had before.
I think I may get a Robertson's torque tube and aftermarket K&M air filter for the motor to see if livens it up a bit.
Also I think I may install a bike throttle rather than run the stock one.
Overall, I'm happy and very much satisfied with the new rig, especially the Backwater kit.

 Re: Backwaterinc.com - you're welcome.
Got some numbers on the new rig... This is loaded to hunt and 3 guys... Got 13 mph with the GX390/SWOMP lite kit on my 1436. I believe I'm going to install a Robertson's torque tube and a K&M filter soon and see what kind of increase I'll see.
So far I'm loving the combo... The boat is light and runs good!!

 Re: Backwaterinc.com - you're welcome.
They have done it again!! I hit something hard last weekend with my 35 swomp while scouting some unfamiliar and nasty spots, damaged a prop pretty bad. I called Backwater a day and a half ago and ordered a new one and it came in the mail today, less than 48 hours later! Beyond great service, especially considering I called a few days before our duck opener and they were busy with much bigger orders than a prop, but they took the time to make sure I was set for a great time. I also recently upgraded my 6.5 motor(another brand) to a 10 hp swomp lite a few weeks ago. The transom mount, combined with the cavitation plate is light years ahead of anything else out there. Both the 35 and the 10 drive smooth all day like outboards. One other thing is that both motors are much cleaner and safer at the connection to the shaft. My old motor always had grease around the top of the tube or at the joint, which gets on the transom, the dog and eventually me. Thank You Backwater!!
