Post 27hp Beavertail on a 1448 Semi V
Currenty run a 1448 Semi V with pods and a 25hp Mercury outboard. The boat does well for a 2 man operation with gear.

I have found a good deal on a 27hp beavertail and was wondering how it would perform on a semi V. Am I going to be disappointed or will it get me where I need to go? I mostly wont see water any shallower than 6-8 inches but would be nice to have that peace of mind.

Might run mid teens , and you'll have to adjust your cav plate for the funky wake it's gonna throw , buddy had a simular set up and he was always fighting the handle. . But it will work in a pinch if that's all you have.

I run a 23 long tail on a 1544MV. It will work you to death. My top speed is around 21mph on good conditions. I am satisfied with it for the most part. It will wear you out on long runs though.

Something. Ain't set right if it's wearing you out just going to and from. I have a 20 mile trip to the area I hunt. Around an hour each way loaded down with hunting gear and supplies for the weekend. I get tires of standing more than anything but it doesn't beat me up. I'm running a 25 GD lt on a 14' crawfish skiff and it will do 22-23 empty. 17-19 with a good load. But it's a true flat bottom boat.

I have yet to get it ont he water yet. Had to order the valve cover and fuel pump because of a leak. I will post results next week once its up and running. And FYI its a beavertail not a go devil not that that matters too much.

Also, the boat has the beavertail pods on it, not sure if that will help with the goofy wake or not.

I run a mod V and don't have any complaints. You just have to set the cav plate right.

So ran it over the weekend. It did 15mph on the GPS but it was trying to pop out of the water. Going to bend the cav plate up a little and see what it does. How much should I bend it to start out with? Does a little bit go a long way when it comes to this?

I haven't seen where mine helps the performance. The cav plate just helps keep the prop in the water. Little easier to run in open warer

Hey I just joined this. I have a crestliner 1448mt w/ 20 beavertail and kohler engine. I had to bend the back tab on the cavitation plate about 45deg up(tall transom). I also moved the fuel tank to the middle of the boat which helped it plane out. Make sure the red round trim ball is set so the cav plate is just under the surface. I'm getting 16.5 mph out of it. No speed demon but goes through anything. I hunt 3" of water with soft bottom no problem with the mod v

I have a 20hp beavertail on my 1448mt. I had to bend the back tab on the cavitation plate up about 45deg to keep the prop in the water at full throttle. GPS speed is 16.5mph (no speed demon) but does get up on plane and can steer the motor w/ two fingers. I duck hunt about 3 inches of water with mud bottom no problem with my boat.

I assume you have a tall transom boat and matching tall transom longtail?[/quote]

My motor has the 72" shaft. It's the older model before you could change that bolt for a tall transom. Works just fine though once I tweaked the cavitation plate.

Ok, is it hard to handle with the cavitation plate being bent so much?

Way easier than before I bent it. Before it was running too deep under 1/2 throttle and prop was popping out of the water under full throttle. It was a real work out on my upper body to drive. Now I just set the red bump stop so it just a 1/2 inch under the water and the bend in the cav plate keeps it there even under max rpms. I now can sit down and steer the motor with two fingers like most guys do with a surface drive. Getting max mph now. I only ran 12mph with two guys and dog before bending it. Now I am gps'd at 16.4 two guys and dog. (No rocket ship but im happy with it for a longtail now) 4mph is a vast improvement just by bending the cavitation plate so the prop is running optimum depth. Guys that are getting the crap kicked out of em by there longtail need to adjust it to run correctly for there boat length and transom height. Takes some trial and error to get it correct but there will be a sweet spot.
