Ive been lurking on this site for a while and just bought a 1854 Prodigy and 2015 35GTR. I called Progressive and set up a policy with them about 2 weeks ago and thought I was in the clear. Last week I received a letter stating that they would be cancelling my policy due to my propulsion system. I called today and asked what the deal was at which time they told me that they have never and will not cover any type of mud motors. I personally know a few people that have progressive insurance on there mud boats and have seen alot of people on this site as well. When asked if they would cover claims people have on their mud motors the progressive supervisor said there is a high probablity they would not cover them. Just a heads up to everyone because I was pretty pissed about it. If you have them you may want to call.

Yep they did the same thing to me and I dropped my auto's off them after 20 years.

I used them for my first boat with no problems, but haven't tried since then.

I got the same letter. Went with boat us after that.

Someone posted a letter from them awhile back stating that they would no longer insure custom mud boats or something to that effect.

They did insure them at one point, and there are still guys that have it/have not received "the letter" yet...

You can probably search and find it.

No problem on "homemade" boat and didn't even care about the motor....

It has nothing to do with the boat it's the motor they won't insure. I've since called boatus and I'm now going with them. Id just hate for someone to have something happen to their rig and progressive crawfish out.

Progressive has fucked me more than once. I hope the whole company goes up in flames.

I got Boat US as well no complaints

I've got mine thru allstate...but for some reason my policy says "Basscat" lol I need to call em and tell em for the 100th time "Prodigy"

They gave me a policy and couple weeks later got the same cancelation letter. Lost me as a customer for good

As long as you did not lie on your original application they would have to pay claims. That being said you probably didn't read what your agent wrote and signed therefor you lied. Switch companies ASAP,! Check out Charter Lakes, that's who I use for my airboat. Have never insured my mud boats but probably will with my new one. I'm sure if they will cover an airboat they will mud boats. Let me know

Well happen to me also. Two weeks after plan started letter came in mail. My boat is Excel 1851 and it's USCG flotation in it, and they wouldn't do it. My question for the ones that this happened to, how long did it take to get your refund back??

Same thing happened to me. I just went to the progressive online application sire and applied again just to see what questions were asked. You are asked to identify from a really long menu of manufacturers , or declare other or homemade. I selected other. Gator Tail, Prodrive were not options. Then I was asked to give model number so in inserted 17 x 48. The only option for propulsion which was applicable was outboard. I was sent right through to a quote of $192 for $12,000 coverage of my boat, trailer and $300,000 liability. Next step was purchase. I remember when I applied the first time I received a call from a progressive rep asking me questions, but they were the same as those online. I mentioned Gator tail was the manufacturer of the boat. She could not find it as a manufacturer. She did not ask anything about my motor. I paid my premium and received my policy then about 2 weeks later I received notice my policy would be cancelled because they declined to insure and would not give a reason, as I recall. They shorted the premium refund by the month I was covered.

Again it has nothing to do with the boat. It's the motor they will not cover. The supervisor said they don't cover any type of mudmotor due to purpose of the motors "shallow swamp type waters". When I got the insurance I called an agent and didn't use the internet. Just hope anyone who has them doesn't have the "if they don't find out then I'm good" mindset. Could cost a lot in the long run.

I want to throw my remote through my TV every time those damn Flo commercials come on. That alone keeps me away from Progressive.

I have Progressive and they had no problem covering my PD. It's on their list too. I'll have to check into it more. Thanks for bringing it up. And the Flo thing too.

I have Farm Bureau insurance. Decent price

I've had progressive for the last 4 years. Just got my renewal in the mail. Haven't had to make a claim i hope i don't. $100 bucks a year. Just i better call em and see whats up it says mud motor on the paper work.

Well, unfortunately I didn't see your post and the same thing just happened to me.
I have all my insurance through USAA but when I called them, they said they said they are now outsourcing boat insurance through Progressive.
I called Progressive 30 minutes after I bought the boat, 18'x44" Go Devil with 23 HP longtail. Agent set everything up and I paid the year's worth of insurance over the phone. They sent me out the paperwork which I signed and returned. 3 weeks later, I just received a letter that they are cancelling my policy in 4 weeks and will give me a "pro-rated" refund.

I called the customer service line and they blame it on the underwriters. Said they don't have any control over who gets service and who gets denied.

Looks like I'll be shopping for insurance as well at some of the places y'all have recommended...
