Re: Fuel 101
I know this post is a little older but it was a good read. I myself owning a gas station HATE ethanol thats why we pay any where from .05 to .07 cents more a gallon when we order fuel cause we get it ethenol free. We are the only station that does that around here and the people don't mind paying a little more for better gas. Especially when they run it in their performance boats or even just their Chainsaw. Ethenol is the devil on those little carbs in a chainsaw/

Aviation probably wont hurt a thing... Might help the valves with the lead in the fuel!

Fuel 101
The more octane i'n fuel the less chance for pre ignition. I have heard of folks mixing 50/50 avgas/ 93 like Craig. Higher octane fuels don't provide more power. They are for engines With higher compression ratios so they can run to their full potential. Without pre ignition before spark plug fire.
Those running modded motors with higher compression and advanced timing need to run 93 octane fuel. If not there is a chance when you get that bad boy hot preigniton can happen and prolonged effects can put a hole i'n a piston or cause other damage.

Re: Fuel 101
any idea how long the 10% ethanol fuel keeps with an added fuel stabilizer like sea foam?

Re: Fuel 101
Q: How long will STA-BIL Fuel Stabilizer keep fuel fresh? A: STA-BIL Fuel Stabilizer will keep fuel fresh for up to 12 months, guaranteed. Depending on the quality, type and source of the gasoline, as well as storage conditions, doubling the dosage rate of STA-BIL could prolong this storage time to up to 2 years. However, any gasoline stored for more than 12 months will tend to lose volatility (ignitability), which could lead to hard starting or no start conditions after this long storage period. NO additive, STA-BIL included, will prevent volatility loss in fuel. To reduce fuel volatility loss during storage, we recommend filling your tank at least 95% full with fresh fuel and STA-BIL, and store in cool conditions away from direct sunlight if possible.

How would 112 octane run in a 5500 black death, would it damage the engine.

Re: Fuel 101
One additional note, almost all fuel on the market contains 4% ethonal since the phase out MTBE. Second, Stabile, the new Marine Stable and many of the other old standby products only do some much, once phase seperation occurs, no amount of these products will help, we are seeing alot of situation of phase seperation after only 3-5 months with this products, and we had recommended these for years now.
Here is our best advice to our customers, if it is going to sit more them 4 months, get it out of the tank, period.
When in use when in use we are now recommending a new product called K100 fuel additive, it does not phase seperate and it does break down the water/ethonal mix and encapsolate it so it can burn off.
We have been using K100 ourselves for over two years and with a regular maintainence dose of a few ounces per 6 gallons and occasional heavy dose of one ounce per gallon we have 0 issues over time. This stuff really works and we give a bottle to every new customer. It is only available in a few places, we stock it here and send it all over the country. Again, we deal with this issue everyday as a marine dealer and as one of the largest MM dealerships in the Midwest, this has been the best additive we have found to combat this issue.

Re: Fuel 101
All refineries produce gasoline without ethanol ...... its an additive. And it is a poor substitute for gasoline. As of two months ago American Oil became the majority of our feed stocks and will continue to replace MORE EXPENSIVE oil from oversea countries.

Re: Fuel 101
Gents, I hate the Ethanol more than most plus being old I have hated it since the beginning. What I do since there is no pure gas here is wash 93 E10. I made a rig to remove the Ethanol and after that I add some Stabil and mix 4 gals of washed stuff to 1 gallon of 100LL. I leave the 100LL out for the 2 stroke chainsaws and trimmers. My lawnmowers, generator, 1967 M37 Dodge, and my MM love the mix. And to the corn belt folks, leave my gas alone and make Whiskey instead!

For any of you guys running Mod'd motors and need Hi-Octane fuel in Ascension Parish - Triple S (SSS) across from Holy Rosary Church on 429, has NON-ETHANOL 87, 89, & 91 Fuel. And, it's $0.10 cheaper per gallon if you pay Cash.

Re: Fuel 101
I have found a few stations that sell no ethanol gas in 87 only. For my modded engine, I then add vp racing fuels octane booster which brings it it up to 95 octane. Runs great.
