I have a 1756 prodrive boat with currently a prodrive motor. I'm there are times that a long tail would be a better application. How would a long tail push that boat. I carry a 70 pound duck skiff and decoys. I'm curious on the experts thoughts.

I see know one wants to bit on this so how about this. what is the ideal boat fora 35hp longtail mudmotor? flat & wide, flat & narrow? or a mod-V front? what works well with that type of motor.

Sorry, I just saw this. A 35 LT will move that heavy prodrive hull and all that gear, but it will be slow. If it is a tall transom (20-21") it will be even more difficult to plane; BackH2o's 35 LS may be the best fit in that case...I am sure you would not want to cut down the transom. A narrower bottom (38-48") would be more desirable. Flat bottom and "narrow" hull is best, a mod-v front is fine as is a square front; I would opt for the semi-v front just to make passage through tall grass a bit easier. I have always had an LT because that is what works for me...if the prodrive hull is a short transom, then the BackH2o 35 SS would probably be the best; again, it would be slow with a full hunting load, but still get you there and back. I believe a couple of waterfowlers here have or still are using a similar configuration hull with a 35 LT, and they can best tell you their GPS speeds with load.

Sorry forgot to give speeds 24 empty 22 loaded to hunt {1 guy} And my 2cents on the motor choice go with the 35cdi SLT you get gear reduction, neutral. The gear reduction makes a big difference on a large boat

Sorry my first reply did not post I run a 17x54 gator trax and have a 9ft four rivers in the boat most trips I have a mb 35cdi SLT in my opinion best LT for a big heavy boat

Muddyriver, my friend hunts out of a 1648 riveted boat and a 31 godevil, he runs low twenties heavily loaded. The boat only weighs about 270lbs. Your prodrive boat probably weighs around 600 and is a modified v correct? IF so I think that boat motor combo would be a pig, I wouldn't do it. If you need a longtail I would buy a longtail boat. Just so you have some close numbers i just put a new 35 mudbuddy lt on my 18 foot big john. 3 men, around 80 big plasti duk decoys im making roughly 17-18 kts. its not lighting the world on fire but its best for my application. if i want to go fast i have a 25 privateer with an outboard with a real scisoor rig lol
