 Re: Backwaterinc.com - you're welcome.
What's your out of water idle set at? Seems this guy messed with idle and wot some. Seems to idle high and doesn't seem to get all the rpms it should. Got a tiny tax today to see exactly what rpms it's turning. Gonna order the throttle cable and lever from backh20. He replaced it with an aftermarket one and I don't think it's getting full travel.

About 1,100 idle out of water and 4,200 WOT.

 Re: Backwaterinc.com - you're welcome.
Took it out today. Think I still have a few adjustments to make as it's kinda hard to hold onto at wot but she was pushing 26-27 consistently in deep open water. Doesn't squat too bad either! Waiting on a quote from a local builder for an 1844 hull though.

Yea it blew out twice. I had one shim on it with the thickest part closest to the shaft and it wouldn't stay down at all. I took it off and ran it without any shim and it ran much better. I was thrilled with the speed so I didn't mess with the shim again. I think if I put the shim back on and turn it around it'll be just right. Hopefully.

Also it doesn't balance like my go devil did. The prop will always drop down back in the water if you let go of the handle. It's in the back hole on the transom mount. Don't know if that's just how these are or if I move it to a different hole it will balance better.

Ok set your bump stop , so it doesn't drop as much as it is . Try that .

I don't understand how that would help. Setting the motor so it won't drop as low won't keep it from blowing out.

The bump stop will work only for how deep you want the prop to drop . Your cavitation plate will adjust to keep it from blowing out. . Apologize for the confusion

Found this picture today of my wife driving the 35 Swomp while I enjoy a beer. When it's all dialed in it almost drives itself.

Arlon sounds like a Harvard Law Professor on the phone, but looks like a grungy, bearded, homeless man in person. Regardless, he, Jake, and Larry are super great guys who go above and beyond to produce the best longtail you can get. They also have Customer Service that is unbeatable.

24 empty with just me 21mph with me another hunter, blind decoys guns and dog . It drives smooth doesn't blow out cornering and goes through anything and gets me home. It may not be a true mud hull but it hasn't seemed to matter going over logs mud and sand. It's light and has outrun custom mud hulls.

You bet! My 2004 MB 27 LT is nearing its zenith of mud motoring and I must have the now fabled 35 SS Swomp beast. 21 mph two hunters and gear! That is longtail heaven. My left arm is still sound so I am not intimidated. I do think getting that custom 18' flat bottom mud hull would be the near perfect marriage with that motor. Good scouting!

I have my SWOMP lite with a GX390 on a G3 1436 jon. Love it. Haven't gotten a whole lot of numbers but the last time I ran it I got 13 mph with 3 guys, 3 dozen dekes and other equipment.

 Re: Backwaterinc.com - you're welcome.
Update. Got the cav plate set right to where driving the motor is effortless. It seems to have cost me a little speed though. Not a big concern. Was doing 26-27 now doing 25. I put a deposit down on a custom 1844 hull Friday though so I can't wait to see what it does on a longer hull without all the hooks in the bottom.

 Re: Backwaterinc.com - you're welcome.
Glad to hear that! They deserve the business- you put together a quality product, provide solid customer support, and get plenty of endorsements like on this site and elsewhere, and word of mouth in the waterfowling community travels quickly, you expect this. Innovators like Jake and Arlon drive the market, thank you! A lot of people think the longtail is dead but we know better! I dream of that swomp 35 SS in the future, and my wife driving it and me sipping a cold one, just like 45th parallel..

I will chime in on the phenomenal support I received from both Jake and Arlan. They both walked me through the options and then put a "rush" on my order. Both if them are very responsive knowledgable and professional. I am amazed how easy it is to run my 35ss while sitting down. No torque or blow out. Just go!!

 Re: Backwaterinc.com - you're welcome.
Just threw together a swomp lite with a Predator 212cc for my otter stealth 2000 and can't stop the damn thing from diving.. Put 2 shims on with the thick end to the front and still dives. Do I try ANOTHER shim?? Debating on trying to run without the plate and see what happens. At idle it pushes fine but if I open it up it wants to sink the entire back of the boat. The prop wants to dive and I'm pushing down on the tiller to keep it shallow and it's just pulling down way too hard on the back of the boat. Also where do I wire the kill switch to? Any input or pics would help. Thanks in advance.

 Re: Backwaterinc.com - you're welcome.
Been out of the MM realm for a while and have been researching these a ton. When I do buy, I will be looking for a boat/motor combo and curious what all you SWOMP lovers might suggest? Whatever I buy I want it to be refuge legal, so that will keep me from pretty much anything over a 25hp, but I will also be running Gulf Coast bays and marshes as well the instracoastal, inland rivers and backwater lakes. Look forward to hearing what you guys say. Thanks!
Edit: Guess I should have added that I would prefer to run the SS version of whichever model I buy.

 Re: Backwaterinc.com - you're welcome.
The 25 is a beastly little motor. Wouldn't hesitate to buy another. Also has hydraulic lifters so you don't have to worry about valve lash like on the briggs. Only thing is the brigs has pull start backup. But the 25 has efi.

 Re: Backwaterinc.com - you're welcome.
What can y'all tell me about the 35? I may just forgo the smaller engines and get the bigger one the 1st go round. What are y'all running them on and how's the performance? My other option was to go with a surface drive, but with either your giving up something to can a little. Anyone have comparisons between the 2?

 Re: Backwaterinc.com - you're welcome.
I started with a 23 on my 1648 War Eagle. It was a great combo. But I decided to jump up to the 35. Wow. Love it and wouldn't have it any other way. I'm 280 lbs and with me and bare essentials in the boat, I get 26.4 mph in deep water. That's GPS verified. For where I run, this SWOMP out performs any surface drive.
