Go devil recommends a 9x6 prop on my 25 Kohler long tail. Wonder how a 9x7 would perform? Found one cheap and have considered buying it.

Oh I know it will turn it. Just wondering if I would gain anything by switching?

From my experience. , the 25 kohlers were tourqe monsters. Not speed demons. . Question , what are you running and what are you trying to gain , it has the umph to spin it like I said , are you looking for more rpms , top end , what conditions . Is it mud. , hard bottom , sand bottom. , and I'll try to help you out .

The conditions I used mine in were hard sandy bottom , mostly runs of about 5 miles or less . My top speeds on godevil boat where never more than 17-20 mph . My buddy hunter x. , still runs a kohler 27 go devil though. , with a 9x7 wheel on it , go devil boat , his top speeds are only about 18-21 mph but will push it through just about anything . If you have rpms to free up than switch to bigger wheel.

Shallow water mud and grass. Often times lots of grass. Felsenthal NWR is my most frequently visited spot.

And it's on a 16x44 go devil hull. Pods removed as well as the flotation under the floor.

Same boat as hunter x. , put it on and you'll probably be running 19-21 with that set up.

How does one know when to change out your prop? I was looking at the backwater ones but don't want to pay for a new one until the last one is pooped out (I am cheap) .

Measure from tip to tip with a tape measure. , if you started off at 9" , you'll see how much you have lost. Also when it sharpens or thins out you are losing cup . I run a. 9 x7 and usually change out at about 8.5" or a new one regardless before big duck season

Thanks. Bought the boat used and the prop was not new by any means. Looks like I will swap it out during the split.

Finally bought the 9x7, got her bolted on yesterday afternoon and hunted with it this am. Prop is now for sale! Dropped to many rpm. Speed essentially the same as my worn out 9x6 but about 300 rpm less and the engine sounds like it's lugged down. It's a BPS Tiger prop - also known as Mudbuddy I'm told and I'll take $110 shipped.

That's what I gave for it. It's previously used but barely and in great shape.

You could also just run it for a while it will wear down and your rpms will start to come back up. You will probably loose some rpms with any new prop because you will have more cup than your last one that was shot.

I put the old one back on and ran it the next day-max rpm at wot with the prop in the water was 3420. The 9x7 was running 3000. I've thought about just running it because I know it's gonna wear down but I'm afraid I'll stress the engine more than it will stand. It's kinda old.

Just call BW. Sell the props that don't work for you and get one that does. From my experience, get one that will wear slightly and get you to that 4000-4100RPM range and you'll be getting about all that thing will do. Obviously more RPM = more speed but turning more prop slower isn't doing you any good. I recently went all the way back down to a 9x4 on my 20hp for hunting season and picked up speed loaded and unloaded and a good bit of load carrying ability along with it. I feel like I've pretty much gotten what I can out of my rig.

Sold that 9x7 at the boat ramp Friday am! Probably gonna just run this 8.25x6 until spring. Then I'll stick a 9x6 backwater wheel on her and grind it down some catching frogs before next duck season!
