 Gator Tail GTR35 speeds
Now that I have had a chance to run this boat a bit I have been able to test different loads and speeds and I have some questions about performance. First off the boat is an 1860 Extreme hull with a stock GTR35. By myself (200lbs) with an empty boat I can get 27+-mph, I add a person, (135lbs) and my hunting gear (5 doz decoys, guns, 90lb dog, 2 pulsators, 3 mojo's, blind bags, 6 gal gas) I can get about 24 to 25 mph. Add another guy (220ish) and his gun, blind bag and I get 11mph max. Should I be gettin better speeds or is this it out of a stock motor? Would adjusting the governor help?
Boat has about 20 hrs on it.
Thanks!

 Re: Gator Tail GTR35 speeds
i have a large boat also (35 GTR stock w/PD EFI) and notice that shifting weight in the boat will drastically increase / decrease speeds loaded - especially with a 3 man hunt load. moving guys forward a bit and gear to the middle/rear works best in my 1860 - but I still could use a bit more power pushing that load,,,

 Re: Gator Tail GTR35 speeds
Not that it's the best comparison, but my 1854 GTB, and stock gator are getting around 27 empty for top speed. Largest load that I've gotten to plane out was three guys, half a barrel of fish, light bar, 5 deep cycle batteries, and bows and radio. We weren't flying, but we did get on step and didn't feel toooo bogged down.

 Re: Gator Tail GTR35 speeds
With a 1854 Extreme hull and a stock GTR35 I am bumping 27 mph with three person fishing load. Last weekend with pop-up boat blind and 2 man hunting load I was running approximately 25.5 mph. Motor has just over 20 hours.

Zap - is your motor a 2015 with 3 blade prop?

 Re: Gator Tail GTR35 speeds
mine is too - I wonder if the 3 blade is sacrificing some power under load for overall smoother operation?

 Re: Gator Tail GTR35 speeds
Mine is also a 2015 boat and motor. Mine has the newer 10 pitch prop and I've been happy.

I have been very happy - I still stop in the slough and tell everyone in the boat that I love driving my GTR

That is a huge boat and I am actually impressed with your one man and two man speeds. Remember if that was a boat being powered by an outboard it would have a 90 or 115 on it.

 Re: Gator Tail GTR35 speeds
Should my RPM's be higher?
Fired up the motor out of the water at idle: 1150 to 1170 rpm's prop engaged idle: 1110 to 1130 rpm's prop engaged WOT: Reached 4800 then settled at 4430 rpm's

 Re: Gator Tail GTR35 speeds
I think your light load speeds sound about right. I have a 1754 (which is 18'8" and probably close to a 56" or so width) and you're getting almost exactly what get with a pure stock GTR35.
However, your loaded speeds are way low. My typical hunting load is three guys (180,190,220), 80 lbs lab, etc. and I'm in the low 20s with no problem getting on plane. I do have the 27" outdrive and older 2-blade pop. I have a 7gal tank and battery in the stern. The guys sit about mid-ship and I have the pin in the top hole.

 Re: Gator Tail GTR35 speeds
your RPMs look right, with no load on the engine. Mine idles great @800 rpms loaded or not with EFI, great for picking up dekes or dead birds. I was struggling to get to 4000 under load and moved trim pin up and now I have to keep it from hitting coils (4750+). I really did not notice any drop in loaded speeds moving trim pin up - maybe even picked some up.

 Re: Gator Tail GTR35 speeds
Perhaps I need to play around with the pin location... Bubba told me that it's right where it needs to be and that I shouldn't move it.

 Re: Gator Tail GTR35 speeds
Adjust the weight before thinking something is wrong. Made a huge difference in mine. The first hunt we made with mine this year I was fighting with the tiller, struggling with speed and took a while to plane. Adjusted the weight around and it solved that issue. Back to the same speeds I always get when carrying 2-3 people and assorted gear.
Of course mine is tiny compared to yours being a 16-54, but same motor. Also a 3 blade.

 Re: Gator Tail GTR35 speeds
My 18x54 GTail CC with 10" catwalks and rear enclosed deck will run a little over 27 with one person and fishing gear. It drops to 23-24 with blind, 3 dozen decoys, fishing gear, hunting gear, iced down cooler and 2nd hunter. Will find out this wknd what happens with 3 adults and a kid. I'm guessing somewhere between 18-20.

 Re: Gator Tail GTR35 speeds
GTR35 2010 with Mikuni carb, cam, performance exhaust, stock Gator Tail prop: 3 people 230, 270, and 170, 6 doz decoys, 2 batteries, boat blind: on plane no problem with top speed at 25 mph @ 3400 rpms. RPMS are low and could prob get more speed with modified prop. Tried prop with extreme cup and could not get on step with same load but that prop would cut through mud like a dozer. Happy where things are now. Will experiment with prop during split.

 Re: Gator Tail GTR35 speeds
Zap, I didnt read all the comments, but I would say your speeds are about right dude. Its tough on these motors try to step a 3 man load with a boat full of stuff when they are stock. Sorry bud, its just how it is for now. I would look into shaving your heads when you can afford the down time. Like right now while Oklahoma is closed til the 13th.
