 Inboard mudboat, need help
I am wanting to build a 8-10' fiberglass motorize pirogue with a 2.5-5hp motor. I need some help finding the drive system(stump jumper, packing box, steering, etc.) for it. I live in Metairie, LA so if any of my fellow coonasses could help, I'd appreciate it.

 Re: Inboard mudboat, need help
Alario's will have everything you need to put it together, stuffing box, flange bearings if you go that route, and the rudder box, but your going to have to build your shaft log or stump jumper and get the shaft made. I've built a bunch of them, and I can't think of anywhere where you can just go buy a stump jumper/strut set up to throw in the boat, it will need to be built.
Check out La Sportsman, you will often seen people selling the running gear and strut set ups from mud boats on there. Last one I built I bought my shaft wheel and clutch off of sportsman for a deal.

If you have acess to a torch and welding machine a simple steel set up is pretty easy to make out of 1 1/4" pipe, a cutlass bearing for the bottom and a rope packing at the top.14 degree angle.I have never seen a factory made.

 Re: Inboard mudboat, need help
I saw that pirogue for sale already. I have a 14' but Id rather go smaller and lighter, so I can throw it on my mounts on my boat. This is going to be use to pick up ducks and decoys. Im not looking to go fast and I dont want a trolling motor. Im thinking at most, a 10' boat with a 2' bottom at the widest. Ill make the boat out of fiberglass covered foam. if I have to Ill make a flat back and run the shaft out the transom. What do you think, possible or not so much?
