Post First post, LT question
Hi folks new here, how is everyone?
So I've been searching for a while and I have a question.
There's a bit of dead horse beating so bear with me.
I'm purchasing a long tail go devil from my stepdad, it's an older model that came with an 8hp engine.
Engine went bad they swapped it for a 5hp Briggs while getting the 8hp rebuilt.
I'm getting the go devil plus both engines for a steal, obviously I plan to run the 8hp then later upgrade to a 13hp. I spoke
With a go devil rep that said that was the biggest engine I could mount on the frame. Yeah it's only 13hp but whatever it's better than what I have now.
My question is boat size.. I'm a large fellow about 280lbs
Gear, a friend, kids etc. I want a boat that the 8hp will surfice until the 13hp upgrade.
I'm thinking maybe a 1440? Would it be much difference between that and a 1540? I hunt mostly small rivers, flooded timer, creeks, and backwaters.
Opinions, advice, experience welcome.
Of course if I can squeeze more hp on it by all means chime in!
I'm sure I'll probably have to upgrade props as well?
Thanks all!

Congratulations on your longtail, I would buy a 1542 tracker. Only 200# and should float you and your family safely. Good luck.

Get the bigger boat because you can always upgrade the motor if you choose too. Yes it will be slow but its better than paddling. I started out with an 11 hp and you could walk as fast as the motor pushed the boat. It beats walking!

Thanks for the replies! I'm 100% thinking at least a 1540. Not sure on engine yet, maybe Honda maybe predator, With a 8x4 prop? I'll probably do air fuel mods but that's about the extent of it.
