Post Weight distribution
I have a 17 foot custom flat bottom with a 36 prodrive tiller handle on the back. Lately I've been having a bunch of trouble trying to get on step with 3 or more people in the boat. With two people I get up to about 22-24 mph. With three people I max out at 14 mph. Not sure what the issue is but I'm guessing it's how I disperse my weight. Rpms are at 4100-4200 but can't seem to get that back end up. Need some help tired of watching everyone cruise by while I'm left looking like a old lady on the highway .

Where is your battery and fuel tank located?

Something definitely isn't right, but I don't think it's weight distribution. I have a 27hp with heads and exhaust on a 1748 and can plane 3 np. It'll only run about 19-20, but that's just lack of power. How's your prop?

It fine it's not worn much at all. What else could be the issue?

Prop was my first thought as well.

You're turning 4100-4200 but not getting enough umph to push the extra man. If it was weight distribution or fuel or something else, it prob wouldn't turn those rpms. It would bog down some. Hence more than one suggestion it's likely the prop. How much is not worn much at all? Humor us and measure your prop (from the very center to the longest point on the tip. Also take a pic of said measurement. If your rpms were lower, then it would open up so many other possibilities, but unless it's running rough, or making funny noises, the only other potential issue I would guess would be fuel. Again though, there's no rpm loss.

Big,

Check the bottom of your boat for hooks I had the same issue once with a Beavertail boat. The motor was fine but the hull was holding me back. Take a few picks of the bottom of your boat for us to see and let us know if there are any dents that don't show up in the pics.

I've tried just about as much as I had patience for. Heavier guy in the middle lighter guy up close to the gas tank , heavier guy in the middle lighter guy just in front of him , lighter guy closer in the back to me and heavier guy up front near the tank, then last I just had them both sit up front heavier guy near tank and lighter guy up on the bow and that finally lifted the back up but just didn't have enough ass to get rolling. The motor would sputter a little bit every so often it would drop to 3900 for a second or two then bump back up to normal for a while i felt like it would just give out at any second .

I can't really tell from the pics but if there are any big dents especially ones in front of a horizontal brace, they could be slowing you down. Prop looks good to me but I have never run a 3 blade so I'm just guessing.

In your first post on the topic you said lately, have you ever been able go any faster with a 3+ man load?

Yeah I've hunted 5 people in it last year when I first got it and I went atleast 12-15 when I had no idea that where I made everyone sit had a huge play in how fast or slow you go. Maybe I guessed rite. That was 40 hours ago on the motor tho. Since then I've found out what these motors are actually made for.

Prop. Measure the blade width. I'll bet you lost 1/4".

And what is that pipe welded on the skeg for?

That prop looks an awful lot like my worn 3 blade.
