Post Mud Buddy HD Sport frame
Can the frame for the model above be used for both short and tall drives or are they different frames? Also, I have been trying to build a bigger motor on this existing frame and tried using a short hd sport motion base with upgrading from 23hp vanguard to 35 hp vanguard. Running into some snags with being able to tension belt properly but was able to somewhat get it , keep breaking belts though. Could I get the tall Outdrive motion base and clutch cover and fix the problem , or would you also have to change the frame too? Thanks for any help

I don't understand what you're asking, but I think the only differences in a tall transom and short transom motor are the belt housing and belt.

Ok thanks 270, that's what I was getting at. I upgraded my hd sport from 23hp to 35 hp and had to do some mods with origional frame and to be able to tension belt. But after thinking about some more I think I would need to get the tall motion base and clutch cove rand should be abele to get everyone to line up properly

Do you have the correct spacer on the pto shaft behind the top gear? How is the belt lining up on the gears? Does it try to walk off when you turn it by hand? How are you reading the belt tension?

Better yet, have you called Andy at Boatdr to try to figure this out?

Got new spacer a while back, I believe the problems is it not lining up on the top and bottom gears, broke two belts , both new at 21lbs , done how mud buddy said to tension to for new belts

I will call him tomorrow because it's stumped me, that's why I was thinking may be easier to go to tall motion base and clutch cover

Thought a new belt tension was 19lbs

You checking it with the MB gauge? You don't have it backwards when you're checking it do you? That will put way to much tension in the belt.

What makes you think the belt isn't aligning properly? What are you seeing?

The bottom gear doesn't have a lip, so it will self-align to a point. Then, you should be able to see the issue.
