Post Timber and Marsh Boat
Hey guys - Looking to get my first mud boat this off season but i wanted some input. I hunt both SELA and timber in Arkansas. If you could have a boat that can handle the Mississippi but navigate the timber what would it be? How big can would u go and be comfortable getting where u need to go in the timber. Already dead set on a GTR 35 so no changing my mind there just want some input on boat dimensions.

Thanks for the help

1748-1750 double or triple taper chine, pull bow in to around 24-30" wide and finish with a 1 ft point

Yep....compromise. Which area do you hunt the most? Buy a boat to suit what you do the most often, and live with the rest.

I have been hunting Venice LA in the past for the majority of my out of town trips but got my first taste of the timber this year and can see it trending that direction. Nothin like seing mallards puttin their boots on coming through the trees!!

Talk to me about the doulble/triple taper chine?? i was leaning on gator trax becasue of the turning ability on the round chine but thinking back i didnt see any when i was in the timber this year? is there something im missing?

This is my 1750, holds good and steady on some big water and 25" bow of solid pipe for the timber!

For me anyway I like a pointed bow for running woods. Helps when you hit a tree or 3 veers off a bit better than a bull
Nose bow. Because you will bounce off a few trees that's just part of maneuvering thru the timber. Hell I hit em when I was running an outboard in Arkansas and Mississippi. Lmao I'd look into a 1748 or an 1850. Running the big muddy can be a bit nerve racking especially when she's up and Rollin! :o I've literally seen dead cows, full size propane tanks and full trees with the root systems still attached floating by while motoring back to the truck. Thank gawd I didn't see that shit in the dark Ida probably turned around and went back to the house!

I run an 1854 moded 35 GTR in timber. Very stable on the river and pointed bow is a must in timber!

I have an 1854 xtreme hull with a 35GTR. I hunt SeTx, SwLa marsh, and frequent the Arkanasas Timber. Honestly, I can run my boat in timber with few issues, but its tough getting the best for both worlds. I fish year round out of it, so rigged it mostly for our marshes at home and fishing. If you aren't hunting public land in Ar where speed is king, build what's best for your home waters, that you'll be hunting the most. Them Ar boys looked at me crazy when I pulled up in the big body with an 8ft pp blade hanging off the back. They weren't too fond of that big boat passing them up and spraying them either lol.

Thanks man, first time ever painting with stencils and DFOU did a jam up job building the boat! Will beat the shit out of the stumps before they beat me! But my next one will most likely be a center console 1850 or 1848. Just liking the easiness of it!
