Looking for input on hull and size
Hey guys, I'm totally new to the mud motor thing and I need some advice. I'm looking at purchasing a mud boat for duck hunting in north alabama, mainly on Guntersville and some of the back waters off other parts of the river. I will mainly be dealing with vegetation and stumps and not so much mud where I hunt. My concern is crossing big water with a flat bottom hull. I was looking in to Prodigy boats with the v rake in the front but with flat bottom. Is this type of hull going to handle chop out on the main channel well ? I'm also looking for opinions on size. I usually hunt 3 with the occasional fourth. Was also considering the GTR 35 for the motor. Excuse my ignorance on the issue, but like I said I'm totally new to mud motors. Any input you guys can offer as far as what you would recommend would be great! Thanks in advance for the help.

There's a guy in North alabama selling his prodigy to get a bigger one. I think it's in the for sale ads on this site.

Yes the drop decks will handle the largest outboard you want to run on them. Chad at Prodigy has built several hulls and mounted outboards on them. For the number of hunters your talking about hunting with I'd go with an 1854 at least. Maybe look into 24" sides as well.

I'm in Decatur, run the TN with my prodigy and no troubles. You can get a little wet when is really rough. Get the v rake and 18 or bigger for that load. If you need any info shoot me a pm

18' is the sweet spot for load carrying and performance. If you are carrying 3-4 people and gear, you will probably not be happy with just a stock 35. As stated above, the performance drops off considerably when you load it down. Get the most HP you can afford, you will use it- especially when you get in deep water when the wind kicks up.
