Adding a hunt deck or pods?
I have an 1844 Gator Trax (21" sides) and run a 32 Pro Drive on it. The rig is about 10 years old. The overall rig is fine for what I need but I am considering adding a pod structure on the back for obvious reasons. Is this a viable thing to do? Is it worth it? Thanks for your feedback.

Re: Adding a hunt deck or pods?
I Purchased a boat with pods once. Completely useless and it performed better once I removed them. Huntdeck if done right is another story and I wont own another rig without one.

If you search on here you may have luck finding all the threads about pods. Every one I have ever seen have basically said pods are nothing but bad news for mud boat hulls.

They aren't always, but they can't just be slapped on. They have to be angles right so they don't affect water thrown to the prop.

Re: Adding a hunt deck or pods?
Reasons....help eliminate back wash into the boat....easier to get in and out as I get older.....more floatation in the back end.
I do like the hunt deck look the best. It makes sense.

Re: Adding a hunt deck or pods?
Put more weight up front or don't let off the throttle so fast. Should we assume you have a 21" transom? I've been running a 1644 Trax with 35 GTR and didn't have hardly any back wash. Granted sometimes I get a little, but I balance my boat really well. I would not add a hunt deck. You are making a weak point in your boat. How much extra lift do you think a pod will give you vs the ability to spin around in the tight nasty stuff?

Re: Adding a hunt deck or pods?
You really should not have any problem selling the current boat, so, sell it then buy the boat you want. You will end up with exactly what you want and will not ruin the value of your current boat by adding something half assed

Re: Adding a hunt deck or pods?
The best way to add a hunt deck is to shorten the interior of your boat and use the existing transom. That's how a hunt deck boat is built anyways. A "17 foot" gator trax with a hunt deck is 18 and a half feet long. The interior is 17 feet. So you could easily have a welder copy what gator trax does when they build them and make your false transom as high as you wanted to for keeping wash out.

Re: Adding a hunt deck or pods?
I have owned hunt deck and non-hunt deck GT boats. Hunt deck is the way to go. Pods are iffy.
I am with those who say to sell what you have and buy a hunt deck boat.
I have a buddy who is a skilled enough welder / fabricator to do a conversion from standard hull to hunt deck by fabbing an inner transom. Interesting concept also.
