Looking at getting a 1544 gator trax and putting a 35 or the new 37 efi gator tail on it. anybody run this set up before id like to talk got some questions and all. thanks
Might end up on a different hull. I want something small enough i can get unstuck in mud alone with dog but still hunt 2 if i want to. any suggestions are welcome. Im between a prodigy and 1544 gator trax right now.

I don't know where you are, but I have a 1644 trax. 2012 with 2013 trailer for sale. Look up some of my posts for pictures. Selling for 4k with blind. No motor.

Re: 1544 gator trax with a 36 or 37 gtr
Im running a 1745 gator trax with the hunt deck so OAL is 18'6" with a 35Gtr stock. I'm touching 30 alone and 24 with 3 guys, a 12 yr old (100lbs) and my Lab (80 lbs) plus all our hunting gear. In deep water it turns really good with no sliding but when you get shallow it will slide on you.

Good info, deerman. Nice setup for sure. But did you even read the OP's post? Or did you just see "gator trax" and that's all you needed? [GRINNING FACE WITH SMILING EYES]

Re: 1544 gator trax with a 36 or 37 gtr
I think 1544 might be on the small side 16 or 1754 would be little easier plus with the extra surface area and gator glide it'll be easy to move. I have an 1854 prodigy and the last day we hung it up on a muddy root mat me and another guy with way more stuff than needed skied it out with 2 push poles walkin on the catwalks. Talk to chad he can tell you what to expect from his boats better than anyone.

Re: 1544 gator trax with a 36 or 37 gtr
Whatever i get i want it smaller. a 1544 is already 16'8" over all with the hunt deck and is getting long for the places i hunt. I dont want something any longer if anything maybe a hair shorter. yea ill probably put gator glide on it but still every extra pound matters when u are alone trying to push a boat off a bank or off grass when you get stuck. weight is weight period. I want lightest i can get, but still be strong as hell.

I'd almost guarantee you can get an 18' boat everywhere you get whatever you have now

Re: 1544 gator trax with a 35 or 37 gtr
If anything I may go with a 16' prodigy but thats still in the decision process. Im trying to see what will perform best in this length range and weigh the least so I can still move it around alone if i need to.

Re: 1544 gator trax with a 35 or 37 gtr
Weight and length being your biggest concern go 1548 .100 thickness bare bones boat and I'm willing to go an a limb and say one of chads boat built like that be about 350-400 lbs maybe less depending on stringers and options. Also another suggestion flat front with duck bill will give you floor space and tree bouncing protection. Want lighter go low sides with short shaft motor plenty of way to get there but talking to a builder is really gonna get you your answers. Good luck

Re: 1544 gator trax with a 35 or 37 gtr
Sounds like you're trying to pound a square peg into a round hole. If every pound counts as you say, don't buy a damn 300 lb mud motor that won't perform on a small boat. I'd suggest you look at the smaller SD motors, longtails, or even outboards.
Gtrax just posted a new little 14' boat, but it's probably to heavy for you to move yourself with a 35 on it.

Re: 1544 gator trax with a 35 or 37 gtr
If you're trying to unstick a boat by yourself without a winch, you need to completely throw out the 35's in any make. You need to be down in the copperhead range.
A boat under 17ft realistically is too short for a 35 unless you're over 50" wide. Like what the Handiman said, you're asking for some (almost) mutually exclusive features.

Re: 1544 gator trax with a 35 or 37 gtr
Based on what you are looking for, I'd suggest that you go without a huntdeck on that 1544 and put a 25hp Mudbuddy mini on it. That's a good setup for a lightweight boat mostly used with just one guy and a dog, maybe two guys sometimes.

Re: 1544 gator trax with a 35 or 37 gtr
I can't get my 1850 trax places I run my 1644 non hunt deck. I took the 35 gtr off the 1644 and installed on my 1850. Sometimes in narrow timber you have to make those narrow turns and the big boats just can't do it! Period! Especially in SE LA. But I wanted the bigger boat. Probably put a long tail on my 1644 if no one buys it.
