 Stripped threads GDLT shaft tube
Anybody ever strip the threads where the seal housing screws on at the bottom? Long story but after basically rebuilding the driveline on my 25 lt I make the mistake of driving the shaft too far in and the shaft threads were up inside the seal housing so when I started the motor the upper jam nut tightened against the seal housing smoked then stopped the motor. Had to Spin it further on to get the pressure off the jam nut and absolutely destroyed the threads. I'm gonna take it to a machine shop tomorrow and see if I can have it rethreaded but probly just gona be able to only run one seal at the bottom bc the threads a will be further up the shaft. also noticed that the lower bushing seems to get pretty damn hot now when running Any thoughts on this?

Re: Stripped threads GDLT shaft tube
Depends on how much work you want to put into it, you can cut off all the welds at the shaft tube get a piece of 3/4" ID pipe rethread the top and bottom, put your bushing in the top and bottom and weld up a whole new shaft tube that way you know you will have enough threads so your seals and collars fit corrrectly. I had to do this on an old LT frame that was given to me and it can be a pain in the ass but if you just do a lil at a time that way you don't rush and get pissed off in the process you shouldn't fuck anything up.

Re: Stripped threads GDLT shaft tube
sink it, claim on insurance or put insurance on it, sink it, claim insurance if you cant weld and change tube yourself, start with trying to fix existing thread. if they can be saved, rethread it to a standard size versus pipe threads and get a machine shop to make you a custom seal housing. very easy design and wouldnt be hard. remember lip seals only contain fluids one way. thats why there are two seals opposite direction in housing. if you only use one, you are either going to keep water out or grease in, not both like designed.
