Anybody running a twist throttle in the trees? If so how do you like it?

Dangerous and sketchy. I went back to thumb control.

Twist grip or thumb control?

This sounds like a sorority debate on how to give handjobs in the library.

And I'm good with either.

All the guys in Arkansas running timber with outboards use twist throttles so I've heard...

True but they aren't fighting a 27" out drive either. I was wondering about the twist throttle and all the tiller torque. I didn't think it would be too bad. Just wondering why I don't see more mud motors with it besides pro drive.

Yep I already talked to him about his. We hunt the same general areas. I think I'm gonna figure out a way to get one on my gator tail. If I don't like it I've always got the bps.

True, I'm too use to a lever style throttle.

I don't feel like I have enough fingers on the handle with the bps. If it was turned around the other way like a clutch lever it would be the shit lol

Post Re: Twist grip in the timber
For one I can keep a closed hand on it. Several times last year I bumped hard into trees because the tiller pulled out of my hand be I was only about a quarter throttle so my hand was pretty much open. Don't exactly have a death grip with my ring and pinky finger. Also I figure it's gotta be more comfortable than the bps on long runs. When it warms up I'll get to fabricating and post a review. Right now I'm waiting for the roads to thaw so I can ship my 32" out drive to Texas.

If some of you can't handle a twist grip on a mud motor, what do you have on you vehicles? Do you have to change you foot pedal to a hand throttle just because you travel on bumpy roads? Looks like some should not have a mud motor at all. After all if you are still using a foot pedal for gas in your vehicle, your foot will bounce on a rough road.

 You're right, when I'm steering with the foot pedal in my truck things get a little rough.

I like the twist better because you can grab it from any angle. I dont like how the squeeze throttle is in a fixed position so whether your sitting or standing you have to adjust for it. The twist is a good rev limiter on the PD also, if you hold it right and hit a stump, as the handle goes down, you'll naturally roll off the throttle and when it comes back up, you're back in it again. Never had an issue running timber or trails.

And flint I seriously considered that. But I figured with my luck I'd either fall trying to feather the throttle or some shit would end up on top of it.

I'd feel like I was driving a runaway Prius. It sucks be you can't let off the gas but in reality you're only doing like 30-35 anyway so....no big deal right? Lol

Mine never gave me any trouble in the woods, but I prefer a lever style throttle
