 Re: Orange gas??
Too hard to get around here, and it's not worth storing 100 gallons of it so I don't have to drive over an hour everytime I want to use my boat or mow my lawn. The ethanol fuel is junk, but it really doesn't cause us any issues. Most issues I've seen are from people who switch back and fourth repetitively because they think they should run non-ethanol whenever they can, but they still use ethanol when there isn't another option.

Luckily in our area, usually when there is a body of water close by at least one store carries non-eth 87 and 93. I take 2 cans, one for the boat and one for the mower.

 Re: Orange gas??
We are speaking of ethanol free gasoline and 10% ethanol gasoline. I know nothing about race fuel never claimed to. I am speaking of gasoline at the pump. 100% petroleum gasoline octanes will not fluctuate much from research octane to motor octane. Your road octane which is 87,89,91, or 93 at the pump. Ethanol does not hold the octane numbers as petroleum fuels. I know nothing about race engines or 16:1 or 10:1 compression. This is a lawnmower engine not a drag car.

 Re: Orange gas??
Ethanol fuel is like Obama....forced on us and not worth a shit! It might do good in a dragster but no good in anything else...unless its used right away. Also...if it dont damage fuel lines, why are there ethanol approved fuel lines?

 Re: Orange gas??
Ok, so I have a couple questions for y'all.
If gas with ethanol supposedly burns cleaner, what is the advantage to running 100% pure gas?
I have a gasoline supplier that sells "ethanol free" 90 octane gas just down the road that everyone buys for their lawnmower and generators and it costs about 50 cents more per gallon than 93 octane premium at the local gas station that contains 10% ethanol. I even talked to the guy filling the tanks at one of the local gas stations one day and he said no one sells ethanol free gas at their pumps, regardless of octane. NO ONE, except the guy down the road from my house.
Also, What is the difference between running 90 octane "ethanol free" gas and unleaded 93 octane premium with ethanol that you can buy a hell of a lot cheaper at the gas station, if you add blue stabil to the premium?
The Stabil bottle says it contains mineral spirits (Naphtha). If you put that in with the 93 octane premium from the gas station would that be like adding paint thinner to your gas?
I spoke to a couple different marinas recently and they both said not to worry about the ethanol in gasoline used in boat motors UNLESS you let it sit for a long time. It was best to use it up within a couple weeks or if it sits to long dump it in your everyday vehicle and refresh your boat supply as often as necessary to keep it from screwing up your boat motor. Geez, DUH.
Wish I knew how to get in touch with the PhD scientist I used to work for that we called the Shell answer man. He wasn't the most likeable person in the world but sure was a smart guy when it came to stuff like this. I KNOW he'd have an answer to these questions...

 Re: Orange gas??
Maybe your explanation is why marinas say to use Stabil and refresh your gas as often as possible. The stuff smells like paint thinner and I want to know why everyone says to use it, but can't/don't/won't explain WHY you should use it. Maybe it'a all a big ruse.
I'm going to investigate this further. Somewhere there's a website that'll explain it all, hopefully so I will understand it. Hopefully it'll explain what to do to keep gas with ethanol in it from breaking down and/or creating water in everything.
I DO know that water is miscible in alcohol. The specific gravities of the two are almost the same and unable to be separated. So when it mixes with any water in a fuel tank it burns the water/alcohol with the gas/diesel when pumped into the engine, at least that's the way I understand how dry gas works. I've used it for years in my diesel in the winter months. It's mostly, if not all isopropyl alcohol.
I'm not sure what Stabil is supposed to do so gonna do some digging to find out.
