Post Gator glide chipping
From my understanding, gator glide is supposed to wear like paint right? At the very front of my gator glide just under the bow of the boat, i have huge chunks of GG missing. And it just peels righf off. But the front never gets hit by anything. At the back of the boat though where it takes all the hits from stumps and what not its just got a few scratches but no chunks missing. Anyone know what could be causing this? You sure that's not steel flex ? It will chip. Did you apply the GG your self or bought the boat with it on it ? Mine never chipped .

That looks like sub-par prep work.

Was it a brand new boat? If so, the alum will have a machine oil as part of the sheet fabrication process. A simple solvent will remove it. If left on, most paint will not bond. If the paint came off in sheets, then it is plenty strong and a good molecular bond to other paint.

If flex is the cause, it will show cracks first or in adjacent areas.

The boat was about a year an half old when i put on the gator glide myself. At the back of the boat nearly all the paint was gone and the front where it is chipping was still looking brand new, almost all the paint was still there (Was told not necessary to remove it). Took some sand paper to the whole boat, pressure washed it, then after it dried i wiped the whole thing down and used every drop of a 1gallon can of acitone. Did a quick wipe down between every coat as well

I have the same problem, used about a gallon of acetone on the repair and happening again. Sorry but prep isn't an issue on mine, I know prep work.

Can outside temp , humidity, or weather conditions affect the bond between the GG and the hull the same as painting a boat ?

Another option- paint mixing? Or primer.

If not prep then I'd have to guess it would be due to high humidity when applying not allowing it to adhere like it should.

Hell idk. It sat upside down like that inside an insulated garage for like 2 weeks surely that was enough time. May have been humidity though idk it's always humid here it's horrible..

I've never installed GG (yet)... However being told it's basically just like applying any other paint, you'd be better of apying it on a bright sunny day outside. The air needs to be as dry as possible. I know that's not realistic in this part of the world every day but you just have to pick and choose when you apply it wisely. I'd let it cure outside as well. Being inside that shop insulated or not could have held some moisture. Plus, you know how things like to sweat and condense water on the surface when inside a shop... I know stuff in my shop does if the conditions are right

May have been leaving it inside idk we'll see what frog says.
I did it right in the middle od summer so it was plenty hot and sunny..Did it out in the driveway too, only rolled it inside after i was done and then stayed there for 2 weeks. Who knows. Can that be fixed easy as painting a gew new coats over the holes?

There he is lol. I'll try to get a better pic but it was kinda hard with the location. Its right where the bottom begins to rise into the rake.

Majority of the chipping is the general area of the right half of this pic. This was taken when i installed it.

 there was very little if any paint left on the bottom as seen in the other pic i posted a few posts back.
The boat sits on the bank for a day or two at a time when i go to the camp house but its just grass so I wouldn't think that could do it...?

I would blame the paint, seeing as how Go-Devil paints their hulls with water colors it seems like

Go-devil's paint has always been pretty solid! I have a few friends with older GD and the paint is holding up well. Another guy I know got one about a year ago and the paint came apart, they said they had tried something new on a couple boats and it wasn't working out. Told him to go get the boat repainted and send them the bill. He said he did and they did. Pretty stand up!

Planning on repainting mine this summer. It's getting bad, bare aluminum in alot of places. I hunt a cypress swamp pretty often so it takes a beating. Gonna try and paint bedliner along the gunnels all the way around and see how that does. Does the spray paint bedliner weigh a whole lot? Thinking about doing that as a base coat for the whole boat the going over it with green if it holds up well

The paint is the only major disappointment on my go-devil. I've got a perfect outline of the bottom of a jerry-can from hauling the boat home with the can on the floor once. It's a problem I can live with, because I bought the thing knowing most of the boat was going to get covered with either hydroturf or GG. It's just disappointing that the handful of times I've run it have left it looking like I drove it through buckbrush for an entire season.
