 Spark Plug Color
Just wondering how soon you should start seeing a change in color in the plugs Im running a 167.5 main jet I havent monkeyed with any of the other Jets. I put new plugs in a couple days ago only have about 1 hour run time on the plugs Its been mainly wide open. I pulled the plugs and they are still white. Just wondering if its cause I havent ran the motor long enough or if its running lean. The motor runs great but I dont want to hear the KABOOM i would rather run it a little rich then to lean

 Re: Spark Plug Color
and if all you changed is main jet that is the best way to check it. and 1 hour run time is plenty.

 Re: Spark Plug Color
Thanks for the tip I went and ran the motor and the porcilin part of the plug is still white which means to lean of mixture right. I put a 170 main jet in and it was to much you could tell the motor was getiing to much gas and almost choking itself out. So that being said what else could I adjust to get a richer mixture. By the way its the single Mikuni carb

 Re: Spark Plug Color
Accurate Reading Conditions The most accurate plug readings are obtained after an engine is well tuned with new plugs and after shutting the engine at the end of a strong full throttle run. Having the engine shut down quickly and cleanly avoids creating misleading information and provides evidence from full power conditions.

 Re: Spark Plug Color
You really should cut the insulator off to view the plug that is otherwise missed from the naked eye. 165 to 167.5 with a 25 to 30 pilot is about where you should be depending on weather and load on the motor.

 Re: Spark Plug Color
Squirrel you should stop answering questions until you know the answers... lmao
You DO NOT want white plugs.. Whoever said brown paperbag was pretty close.. Kinda like a mocha color.. It also takes longer than 5-10 seconds of run time..
Fire it up on the water and go run WFO for about 15 minutes.. Run fast enough to shut it down and be able to coast up to the dock or beach etc by shutting it off running at 3/4+ throttle. Let the motor cool and check your plugs.. If you want to get really cool get an exhaust sniffer and WEGO log program and you can really dial it in..
