Post installing boat floor
im about to secure my new aluminum floor into my xpress jon, what are yalls recommendations for fasteners? I had bought some SS screws but read about the corrosion(thinking just use a teflon or rubber washer). I know i could go with aluminum rivets, but as im installing some cheap sears turf, id hate to have to keep cleaning all the glue off and keep laying new turf down everytime a couple rivets break.

I used rivets on my old boat and I can not remember one braking off. My new Prodigy has rivets on the floor too if I remember correctly.

1/8th butterfly rivets with a big head if you can find them. Day motorsports used to carry them.

I've tried 3/16 big headed alum rivets and they didn't hold up.

I've been using 3/16 stainless rivets on the last few boats and they have been working fine.

Removable wooden floors would be quieter and more convenient. Thinking about removing the aluminum floor in mine to see how much junk is stuck in there and repace with sectioned removable wooden floor.

Put in some marine plywood and paint it. Less heat and easier to mess with. If you want aluminum floors then use stainless rivets.

Yup iput plywood in my express for the floors , and on the bottom side ,i put a thin layer of glass to seal it up , then rolled nonskid rubberized coating ontop the wood. I take it out once a year just to clean the bottom out. its been there for three years and looks the same as i put it in there.

I had aluminum rivets holding down a plywood floor in my old boat. Never had one break. Same goes for my existing boat with an aluminum floor. No aluminum rivet problems so far.

Good thread, I gotta put a floor in mine here pretty soon. I may end up just going plywood like slingshot. What thickness did ya use?

appreciate all the replies so far. Im sticking with aluminum being i pulled the old wood floors out, i only run an outboard on this boat and its CC, and i extended my 20" deck to a 48".
