 Thanks instigator911
Jay and me had been doing some work on a modified hammer prop for a SB. In doing that he noticed my transom angle was pretty jacked up. It was from the motor bracket pressing in to the 1/8" welded over the transom. Well he got me a shim and I mounted it and utilized the bolts that go through the transom as he told me.
First day I got my boat i ran in the 24-25 with 2 guys no load. I've never consistently had those speeds since. I've been in the low 20s light to upper teens loaded.
I ran it the last week with both a new GT prop and our hammer. Both were running mild loaded solo in mid 20s (24-26) and getting 27 on occasion in deep water no current.
To say the least I'm thrilled. Review of the modified hammer to come just wanting some ride time with a heavy load.

 Re: Thanks instigator911
So your Gatortail boat did not have the correct transom angle for a gator tail motor?? JUNK!! Lol

Let us know how that prop works out .. My uncle tweaked a 12" GT prop for me .. I'm still at 3800 RPM's but seems to have a better bite and less slip with the more blade surface

 Re: Thanks instigator911
So let me get this straight. The transom of your $6,000 Jon boat (give or take) is buckling under the weight of the motor it was designed to hold? And you don't find that a little screwy?

 Re: Thanks instigator911
I'm neither a cheerleader nor hater. Just stating what my experience was. Boat started very impressive and tapered off to not so great. Never could figure it out. Jay rides with me while R & D a prop and instantly notices. Boat runs great now.
Buckling under the weight, lol were talking an 1/8". It would be a "stretch" to call that buckling, no pun intended. The angle comment isn't worth responding too.

 Re: Thanks instigator911
Tad I never thought you were a cheerleader at all. you've always given objective reviews and updates on your rig. But the fact is, you had to basically ****** rig a gator tail boat to make a gator tail motor run correctly on it. Whether it BUCKLED 1/8th of an inch or 2 inches, that shouldn't happen.
Glad you got it running right again.

 Re: Thanks instigator911
I agree, and appreciate it. I was just glad I was with someone who pointed it out lol. Am I mad I had to ******rig a 14k rig, hell yea. Will I admit that, hell yea. Lots of guys with similar boats, a big block would probably not notice an issue like this. Small blocks seem to be more sensative. Just wanted to share the experience and how to. I have been hard on the hull, I truly do use my boat year round and never give it slack. Stumps, logs, levees. I have no dents in the hull, I have hits rock and steel pipe, if a 1/8 recess in the transom is all i have to show I can't be too mad.

 Re: Thanks instigator911
Yea you read that wrong. My boat hasnt ran mid 20s for more than a year. The speed referece was of how my boat performed new vs now after i shimmed it. It wasn't like it ran slow yesterday and today I picked up a few mph. As far as the trim affecting me being able to trim as far down your correct. But as it sits now is were it should be, I still have the ability to drop the pin. I've ran it in mud since the shim and it performs as good it always had.

 Re: Thanks instigator911
I'd still bring the boat back to Gator Tail and show them the shims to see if they address the issue.

I'm not going to drive 5 hours to see if they'll fix it. Just wanted to give credit to the guy who did.
Barroll, I never said "hard". I mentioned what I have ran it in, and I use it year round. And that I have no dents in the boat aside from the one mentioned on the transom.

 Re: Thanks instigator911
So you gained 5 mph by adding that shim alone or was that including the new prop? Before you shimmed it were you running with it trimmed all the way up?

 Re: Thanks instigator911
Yes, jc. I am running a new prop but had it prior to the shim. The issue was with it sunk down I didn't have enough upward trim to get in the sweet spot. I was runnung 22ish with the new prop before tge shim. I had a severely worn prop prior and couldnt get it past 3800 solo. Now I can run a new prop 3990 all day solo.

 Re: Thanks instigator911
Hard to make out, but you can see the waves in the metal. Second pic more than the first, you can see it looks like there is a brace in the center of the transom. Not sure there is, may just be that the metal isn't dented there, but if you look you can see the metal is deformed either side of center where the transom bracket holds the transom.

I agree CB. I see it as well. Hoping this isn't the norm since I haven't long got a gator tail boat myself

 Re: Thanks instigator911
Sorry I missed this. Most Hunt deck boats with vertical c-channel transoms and .125 skin collapse in this manner over time with heavy use. It increases the transom angle at the motor clamp tremendously in some cases causing poorer performance in some.
