 1754 Tiller to Center Console
I have a 1754 GT Boat and recently sold my tiller GTR35. I am thinking about buying an EFI and converting it to a center console. Has anyone done this on the site? How did it come out? Was it a pain in the a** to run all the wiring for the console? Also, I am worried about just how much room i will missing. Thoughts?

Re: 1754 Tiller to Center Console
I went from tiller to console 30hrs later back to tiller on a 17/54. the 54" wide bottom is a little skinny for a console I find. There is a lot of work involved in a console conversion I would try to get some seat time in a console rig and truly see if it fits you or not.

Re: 1754 Tiller to Center Console
My thoughts are that the console on the side leaves the boat with more room, and that if u dont regularly make long runs, it prolly aint gonna be worth the trouble. I like my console and dont regret switching from tiller. U will need a grab handle on the motor for sure with steering. If your intentions are to play in the mud and pass where others might not be able to as easily, then u want a long skinny hull with a tiller. If comfort and hauling plenty weight are in the plans, id go with a console.
To me, the ease of driving the boat when loaded down with the console, going from point a to pount b, out weighs the lil advantage u have with a tiller when you are "playing" in the mud. I guess it depends whats more important to YOU.

Re: 1754 Tiller to Center Console
Thanks for the feedback. I spend more time in deep water for long rides that's why i was considering it.. I guess for me to go to a center console i would probably need to bite the bullet and get a bigger boat. Going to try and track down a 1754 CC to take a ride in before i buy another tiller though.

Click the link in my signature to see my rig. I converted to CC and couldn't be happier. I bought a console from a member on the board and then had Gator-Tail rig it up. Woody

I make very long runs to different parts of big lake. For me it's awesome, but it is slower getting out of a bind in the mud. You will still get out just might take you a little longer
