Post Pulled the trigger.
Finally pulled the trigger and put in the order for a new boat and motor. Im getting a prodigy 1748. 18" transom With a 35 backh20 ss. getting gator glide put on it and a few other things. Does anybody run a similar setup boat and motor? What kinda speeds are you getting?

I'm running that size boat, just with an sd. Based on what I've read about that motor and comparisons with longtails that I have run, I bet you'll see 22-23 with that boat, and it'll shove it like a bull.

Well, I envy you. The Prodigy line looks really good. Is the 18" transom a special order or is that standard? (usually you see a 20" /21" transom for SD motors; 16/17" short transom). I believe the SS BackH20 is made for the short transom but has enough adjustment for other heights. I'll be morphing that route some day, maybe a "light" 1848 configuration. I grew up in Oak Park, Michigan, but I never experienced ducking up that way. For sure with the ice and big water that thick hull makes sense. Let us know how the maiden voyage goes!

If you get an SS SWOMP, your boat must have a 16" transom.

Just tell him what transom height you want, he'll do it.

Super jealous of the rig you're putting together. Can't wait to see it and hear your review!

Sounds to me like backwater can't make up their mind. States that SS is designed for a short transom but will work on an 18" transom? Hell that's no different than day an LS will work on a 22" transom. Both are 2" out of "spec". You will be much happier with a 16" transom.

They said it would run on an 18" fine, but the best would be 16" so i had it changed. From what everyone has said as well as backwater 16" is the best. Im sure you could put the ss on a 20" and it would run.... That was my bad i should have gone with a 16" in the first place... That was my bad.

I mean I can put any motor on any transom and as long as the prop reaches the water it'll "work" but won't be ideal. Good call changing to 16" transom you'll be much happier.

Congrats, looking like my Prodigy is a couple few weeks away from coming home. We need to organize a michigan ride, bowfishing or something this summer

Congrats as well. You will enjoy the backwater motor. The Prodigy boats are the finest around. Post pics and performance when you get it.
