Im considering putting a more permanent blind on my boat. I have used pop ups for years and they just don't cut it for me. Im thinking about something like the phowler light marsh blind or something low profile which can also be removed during the off season. Im thinking about using conduit and bending/welding it kind of like the guy did in this article http://www.wildfowlmag.com/tactics/conc ... nd-hidden/. I would like to keep it low profile as possible due to the fact I have to get under a low bridge to get to my hunting spot...need to stay about level with the motor. Any ideas, pics, plans, etc. will be greatly appreciated.

I built one on my 1860 similar to the one in your link. But I don't like sides that I couldn't get into so made mine so that it has 3 "doors" on each side so that I can raise it up to get decoys out. Here is a link to something similar to what I did.

I like the turkey chair idea. Makes sense. Do you have more pics of the blind build the frame? I get the concept but don't really understand how it operates or designed. Perhaps the dealer you mentioned has a website with pics of it? Thanks!

I've thought of every conceivable boat blind configuration. I thought of a lightweight folding frame on pods that one deploys at the site and your boat just slips right in and out of it.

I built mine using 3/4" EMT and a tube bender. The base is a "quick detach" with C-clamps attached to 1" square tubing. Used regular bimini hardware at the pivot points. Covered it all with burlap camo netting, and attached raffia grass to that. When down, it is even with the gunnel of the boat. Since it's custom built, you can make it as high/low as you want. Takes about 3 days to build. Here's a few pics

Folded down

Silly question but why is there so much grass pointing inside your boat in the folded down position? Shouldn't it all fold up inside the frame with a little extruding the outer edges?

Good question. Maybe it's only attached to the frame on one side (top or bottom) and he rolls it up first, then drops the blind?

Bass Pro. They are actually (large size) rod holder clamps with tapped holes on the side and top. I paid $16 a piece for them.

Just built mine yesterday and going to put a camo net and raffia on it today. I have about $15 in materials not counting camo netting. I used one foot of angle iron ( 6" up front and 6" in rear). 3/4" EMT 2 couplings and some foam to protect my boat and gun.

I just finished a homemade fold down conduit blind for my boat. I saved a bit of money by making the brackets instead of purchasing the bimini hardware. I seriously considered a "permanent" type rigid blind but ultimately decided against it due to storage. My only storage option is a two car garage and there is not enough room to store a blind that has roughly the same outline as the boat when removed. Outside storage isn't an option if you want the fastgrass or other coverings to last more than a season. Also, taking the coverings on/off every season would be a pita.. so I ended up going with the folding blind. Mine comes off the boat with 4 bolts and folds flat against the wall in the garage with all the gras/coverings in place.

If I had a place to store a rigid blind then I probably would have gone that route. Lifting and then relaxing, folding and securing the fold down blind every hunt is a bit of work, especially when I'm hunting alone.

Added the camo netting yesterday and will be dyeing the raffia and attaching later.

Got my frame half way done, i used galvanized pipe as an inside sleeve to join my conduit together (had to grind the OD down a bit)
Gonna use hinges for the other part of the frame. Gonna be similar to buck72.
