 Ready to test it out!!
Hoping to pick it up tomorrow of Friday and hit the water! Seems like a good unit but only time will tell if its going to turn out good or bad. Hopefully I will sell it before it takes turns for the worse if it does.
Boss 4400 and it going on a 1848 I built a while back.

Re: Ready to test it out!!
I think it's a great design, if boss can get the flaws in mud buddys past worked out they will be a great setup.

I hope they get all the bugs worked out because I can see one of these on my rig in a few years when the GTR gets tired.

Re: Ready to test it out!!
I need to replace my older GTR and am considering the Boss, so I'm also anxious to hear some reviews. Between the GT and Boss website I've gathered that the Boss weighs approximately 350 lbs as compared to the GTR at 260 lbs. Is this true? An extra 90 lbs seems like a lot to hang off the back of my boat.

Nice motor Brandon, is the circled item a bump stop?

I like how so many more people think they're going to be better now because they are assembled in Louisiana now instead of Utah!

Re: Ready to test it out!!
When I saw the H at the Sportsman Show I noticed the same thing and it's definitely a bump stop. It appears when taking a right turn it won't go near as hard as a left turn.

Re: Ready to test it out!!
The blue circled knob is the trailer lock. I want to say that's a bump stop so the frame doesn't contact transom mount.

Re: Ready to test it out!!
Just one question...why a 4400? Why not buy the 35 and put some decent heads on it after while instead of iron mountains?

Re: Ready to test it out!!
I was gonna ask the same question about what looks like a bump stop.

Re: Ready to test it out!!
I hate to talk chit about a new company and I'm not trying to ruin their reputation at all because they have a very good design but just need some time to figure things out.
First thing we do when we get it on the boat is try to crank it. Motor will not start. Trim works but nothing when I turn the key. We fiddle fart around with it for about 10 min and I play with the shifter a little and it fires up.
Then I notice oil coming out from the motor mount. Not a whole lot but a little. Well my dealer calls Boss and they say it's from when they drained the oil out of the motor when they cranked it. Which I can understand but it gave us a scare for a little while.
Well I take it to the lake and run it for a while and notice I'm not going too fast. Pull out my phone gps and says I'm going 27 mph.
This same boat had a 35 gdsd on it that ran about 25-26. 1848 w/ 3/16 bottom, gun box and seat.
Well I wasn't very impressed with paying 2k for mods and not getting any speed for it! I know it wasn't going to run 35 mph but I was hoping for around 30 at least.
Then I pull up to the ramp and sit for a second wondering if I have screwed up by buying this thing and I go to crank it and it won't crank again. Well after about 15 min of playing with the shifter I get it to crank.
These motors have a neutral safety switch like an outboard and if it's off a little the motor will not crank. The thing that bothered me was am I going to have to adjust this thing every 10 hours or so??
Well that evening I decided to call the dealer the next morning.
I've know him for a while and he has been good to me. I asked him is there anyway I could get my money back because I wasn't pleased with the money I spent on the motor.
Well he bought it back from me. Motor has 54 min on it.
Maybe I should have given it a little longer but I didn't want to take that big of a gamble.
Now i do believe that in a few years when they get the kinks worked out it will be a great unit.
But I will say this, it has a much better reverse than a GTR has! Thing backs up like nobody's business! And it is easier to steer with less tiller torque.
That's my honest opinion.
Hell maybe I got a dud, not sure.
So after all that I ordered a GTR yesterday.

Re: Ready to test it out!!
Make sure and give that feedback to boss, maybe they'll get that shift thing fixed quicker than "in a few years". So top speed was junk, but did you try putting a few people in there to see if maybe that's where the difference might be?

Fuck that noise. But hey man, it's cool that your dealer took care of you. That's the kinda thing that keeps customers, or in this case keeps potential future repeat customers.

Re: Ready to test it out!!
There had to be away to remove and by pass the neutral safety switch and that does seem really slow for a modded motor
