 Re: Half Ton Diesel Trucks
Ford had one a while back and they canned the idea. GM.... Who knows
Toyota or Nissan had something cookin with Chrysler and that idea was pitched too. Im pretty sure it had to do with the downfall of the economy/auto business falling apart.
Now before yall jump my ass about the Toyota/Chrysler thing, thats just what i read. And it was only going to be a US thing and thats why its the way it was.

 Re: Half Ton Diesel Trucks
Like Brad said, GM had plans for a 4.5L Dmax. Personally I think it is a great idea. Diesels are not created all eaually, so making a smaller engine to sit where a small block V8 sits and make more power an deliver more fuel economy is great. It will suit a number of peopl who need a little more than a hald ton, but Not as much as a 3/4 or 1 ton truck.
If GM gets to doing this they need to have a 3/4 ton tranny Cause the 4L60E is weaksause with a gasser, 9.5" 14 Bolt semi float rear axle, and a Dmax under the hood.. I think it will be a great concept IF auto makes decide to get the ball rollin in this OBAMAnation.

I had read somewhere that GM was shooting for 2011-2012 to release theirs but you never know. If it does happen I will probably be looking into one after they have worked out their kinks in the first couple of years of production.

Not worth their effort with the new emission standards.

Cummins built a V6 300hp 500lb-ft diesel that should be out in 2011 in the half tons. One of our engineers showed me the engine and said its a animal.

 Re: Half Ton Diesel Trucks
There has been discussion on this way back in 2001 when I had my POS Duracrap. Dodge and Ford talked about it as well and all three say 'maybe in a year or 2' it seems. I agree with the above poster who mentioned the new emissions the mileage took a dump. Thats the government for you, take an engine that put out less emissions than a gas engine, and regulate it to the point to where it doesnt make sense to buy.

 Re: Half Ton Diesel Trucks
Toyota, Nissan and Ford all have some over here. All over them are crew cabs and 4x4. I have given a lot of thought into bringing one of the yotas back with me.
Toyota changed up their body style with the Hilux and my company got me one but I have not had a chance to drive it yet... looking forward to it though.
I was suprised how many people over here put snorkels on them...
