Thinking about a 15'x38" Gator Trax Rogue with huntdeck. My main concern is stability for two (2) men to hunt from it. I would spud pole it to help but am unsure how stable they are from a hunting perspective. I previously owned a 17'x44" Gator Trax with a 35 Mud Buddy and had no stability issues. The reason for considering a lighter set-up is to allow me to get over stumps easier with a lighter set-up... possibly a Rogue with a Mud Buddy 23 mini. The majority of my hunting is in protected waters so crossing big water isn't an issue. Just worried about two (2) men standing to shoot.

Anyone have a similar set-up and or feedback?

I don't think you'll have a problem especially once you spud it down. I have a 1638 with hunt deck and can have someone fishing/bowfishing from the bow deck and I can stand on a cooler in the back and pole/fish also without it feeling tippy. Hunting we just stay in low profile chairs. If we need to shoot behind just get on a knee and you can shoot behind.

Thanks for the input... personally I like to stay seated in a chair and stand to shoot. Typically it is just me and a buddy in the boat. I've only hunted out of a 38" hull one time years ago and remember thinking that it was a little "tippy". When possible, I would probably try to run it up in some brush/grass to assist as well.

As long as you guys aren't jumping all over the place I think you'll be fine with spudding it down but everyone has has different opinions on what is tippy or acceptable.

You will not be happy with such a narrow boat. Forget about standing to shoot. Spud poles will do almost nothing for stability. Min. width for duck hunting boat is 48". I know what I'm talking about.

I wouldn't be interested in a 38" width for hunting, but a 44 is definitely fine. 48" isn't required. To know if it'll work for you, you'd have to get it in the water, and add whatever weight you'll have in it hunting, to include motor weight at the back, and then see.

I have a. 36" duck skiff. . It's fine as long as it's spudded or , in my case it's so light in weight I mostly beach it sideways or spud it in up to. 5' shallow water . My spuds attach by way of the sleeves welded to c clamps . Spud poles are t handled 5/8 rebar .

Bullsprig where do you hunt?

Mostly a large lake near my house. I hunt the backwater stump field areas. We also gator hunt the same area so being able to easily glide over stumps and avoiding a lot of draft would be extremely beneficial.

I would imagine the boat would compare to a normal 42-48" bottom jon boat bc of the way gatortrax measures their hulls. I have a 50 and its more like a 60 at the water line. 2 guys could hunt out of a 38 but if yall are big guys idk how fast i would be jumping up. Lol

Guy who hunts with us has been running a16x38 with a 36 prodrive its more stable than i thought it would be

I ran a GD 18x38 from 2000 to 2013. It was the best marsh boat ive owned and could haul a good load and was surprisingly stable given its narrow beam.That being said if you are hunting shallow only its great but its definitely not a big water boat.
