Post Briggs 206cc bogging down
I have a briggs 206cc motor.

5' shaft long tail - straight drive - no U-joint - runs smooth as silk it does have a Cav plate installed

I ran it on a very light 1432 - and it just boggs down. I initially bought a 7x4 hill prop - then changed to a 6.5x4 prop and it helped, but I still can't hit higher RPMS

it will run 7- maybe 8 MPH with me and my 90lb lab up front - and that is a guess.

motor is completely stock.

any input ??

MPH - doesn't really justify that its bogging down. it just runs like the motor is in a constant bind.

thinking about upgrading to the predator 212.

I am building another long tail now with a predator 212 - if it operates smooth - i'll change out the briggs.

You are asking a lot from a 5 HP engine that is on a direct drive. You need to verify your actually getting full throttle, the engine is running efficient, and your propeller is the correct size.

the 6.5 predator does a lot better. finished build #2 sunday. predator 212 with 6' long shaft. 7x4 prop.

I have the motor hopped up a little. - bigger carb, big air filter, 18lb valve springs, different exhaust.

it pushed my boat a lot better than the other motor.

I just trashed my Briggs 190 Intek for a predator 212. Put the marine cam, stage one kit, .016" head gasket, #39 jet and 140 emulsion tube, and a robertsons torque tube all from NRracing. I ported and polished the heads as well. Took it out with a 7.5" prop and turned it like it was nothing. Just ordered a 8" and 9" prop to see what this thing will do. Highly recommend the predator just respect the fact that the flywheel could come apart if you take out the governor.

How deep is your prop running. You need it right below the surface to get maximum rpms, it will actually be about half in the water half out with the cab plate parallel to the surface. If it runs too deep it will really bog down that motor. Good luck
