If I had a manual reverse and didn't fully engage the locking pin, I bet I could go sideways pretty good. Luckily, I have hydraulic reverse and can control my full power sideways. [SMIRKING FACE]

Good try but not what happened but if you had manual reverse the shearing pins comes standard. Not just one motor but several have had the same issue and another broke right the so called fix was installed.

I think a few sheared pins out of 6000 plus engines is more of a material defect than a design flaw, but then again, I don't think they should offer manual reverse at all at this point with being able to run everything off of one pump; its nice.

That HDR looks pretty serious. I like the long outdrive.

Not talking smack....just the truth. I have yet to see a GTR back up without high rev and without throwing water and muck everywhere.

Looks like MB is making strides with a belt driven reverse...especially with the click of a button vs pumping a brake lever....and being its an aluminum clutch cover, no melted plastic.

My gtr will idle backwards in deep water like that one did. That being said, i still want one with a 27" drive

Gtr has made theirs for years, so they don't get a pass with those little things. May not seem like much to those that drink the koolaid, but reducing vibration and having a switch or button instead of a lever is an improvement worth making. Gt should have done something long ago. Making an electric reverse wasn't a huge conceptual step from where they already were. Neither is putting a bearing at the free end of the shaft. If mb gets that much right (which still has got to be proven to work and last) and puts the mud block plate in the wrong spot, which IS solvable by your average welder or some bolts and a piece of aluminum, then they've still improved legitimate issues with belt drive reverse motors. I've seen many ignore those two constant complaints or make excuses for Gtr motors, and now I see someone else attempt to fix them and it's insignificant or has already been done? That's a crap argument based on bias, and not the product being discussed. Yeah, gt's console drives have had electric, but they still haven't taken that next step and equipped the tillers. Seems like by what someone else said about making their motors so they break and get them more business, the electric would help them sell more props and shafts, which means more work. I could care less if it's a new thing or not that mb did, but if they improve the things we as customers want, then I'm not mad at em. If Gt improves theirs now, then it's done what it should, and driven development to give us better motors. If Gt gives up or just sits on their laurels, then so be it, but improvement is improvement. And these aren't just silly little changes to a tiller surface drive.

He'll GT just make reverse pad's wear even and lose some of the vibrating would be a start.

That would be a lot. Not just a start. I just enjoy running these motors, enjoy the activities they transport me to, and actually like turning wrenches on them. The more they improve as a whole, manufacturer independant, the happier I'll be the next time I purchase one.
