They're great. Buy 3 of them.

Been around several that are 3-4 years old and still going. It's what I run. Just take the time before and after each season to inspect your bushings and grease the shaft and make sure the inside of the pot housing is greased well. Replace the nylons with bronze when they wear out. I buy the mud skipper kits, add grease zirks and bronze bushings, I make a 4 inch transom bracket and weld my own wing bolts from grade 8 bolts. 50 bucks in small parts and you get a kit better than the swamp runner and still come out $100 on top. No disrespect to John dobbs, but he does the same thing aside from the transom brackets I make are bigger, his time is why they are almost $200 more than the mud skipper. But do the upgrades yourself and you have a great rig for a low price as long as you do the proper maintenance

Oh and put 5/8" tall rubber bushings between your motor and the mounting plate. Cuts down on vibration a ton. Requires slightly longer bolts.

Just go ahead waste your money man you'll see but do like frank said and get three so you'll have some spare parts

They will not make it through the same stuff an American longtail can side by side they will fail where a godevil or backwater will keep going I have run both there is no comparison between a Thai kit and a backwater or godevil

I'd go this route before any junk with a 5/8 shaft and aluminum prop.

Everyone has an opinion of this "junk" I have found for my personal experience you can't beat them for the price. Where I live and hunt we don't have hardly any stumps nor things to jump, it's mud or hard clay bottoms and grass. They work just fine in kansas. Why would I buy a $2000+ mud motor when I can build a 22hp rip for right at 1000 and it works fine and gets me everywhere I want to go.

I'm not sure about the small motors, my buddy had one with a 6.5hp and I think that one was smaller than 1 inch. It pushed a 1436 jon boat for a season with no problems. I know the 10+hp use 1 inch shafts
