Post extreme series vs x-series hull
Not trying to start a GT vs. PD argument, just have a couple questions that I was not able to find searching. First off, I’m looking to buy a 1754 center console with a 37 and hydraulic steering, no matter which one I buy. My questions are, first off, which hull is seen as being a better built hull (x-series vs extreme). Second question is, which package would be better at carrying a load? I do a lot of bowfishing, so it will be loaded down quite a bit, just wondering which package would accommodate that better.

Thanks.

The X series is just a standard square chine hull. The exteme hull is a special crimp on the bottom to help the boat turn better at faster speeds without sliding as much. They will both carry a load similar. Just get an 18x54 if you plan on doing a lot of bowfishing in either.

I'm kind of stuck on the size I believe. Boat has to fit in the garage and it will be tight as it is. I will already have to modify trailer to swing away

If you get an 17x54, expect to have to do engine mods I you have a heavy front end bowfishing load.

Would 1' really make that big of a difference?

Can anyone comment on the build quality of both hulls? Is one build better than the other or are they both quality hulls?

Both hulls are built well and broke up by the same people. Just a little different bracing. I would say the pd hull has ( not sure if they're still building them the same) more bracing, but then the extreme will turn better and maybe a tad bit faster. I think both are good quality hulls the will work fine.

Size is all up to you and what you use it for if your not going in tight places, I would say go as big as you can as long as you don't want to break any speed records. I like to run 20' boats for hauling a load. And I run a lot of timber so I try to stay between 48-54 wide.

I was thinking that the newer pro drive hulls had a bit of a taper in the back. I know Buddy's does, versus Will's old boat which was a year or 2 older and a straight square chine hull

Go test drive them. Bring about 4 or 5 empty ice chest with you and a 5 gallon bucket. Test drive them empty, half load, and all the way loaded (1000 to 1200 lbs). Make sure to put weight up front similar to your estimated load ( lights, trolling motor battery and one dumb ass who will always sit there ( usually the fatest guy).

I think it's better to have engine work, then have to shift the weighty around or tell guest my 20G rig won't haul the load. Much better to have them ask you to slow down out of fear then laugh at your weak ass rig. 8-)

Possibly but the only measurable amount of anything they create is shit talking on Internet forums. They do turn well but, to me there are too many variables to really say wether one is better than the other as far as carrying a load. Square/single taper is good and round isn't usually AS good, but both will get the job done. As far as one, two, three, thirty six, extremeish, pizza cutter, etc chines... I dont know... It usually all comes down to the surface/planing area of the hull and weight distribution.

^^^ this ^^^

The only thing extreme about that boat is the name. A flat bottom boat is a flat bottom boat. Now, you can screw it up easy with wrong motor height and angle, but these boat builders have all optimized their boats. Then it becomes a less weight game.

Like everyone has already said 18' is the way to go with a single engine. Both boats will be so close in speed with that load that you shouldn't compare speed. However when your fishing or whatever you plan on doing with this boat. You have to decide what type of reverse system you want. In my opinion prodrive has the better engine. Gatortail has a better boat, with all there custom options. Best thing you can do is ride in both and decide.

I own an extreme hull and I love it. It's actually an older model (2010) and it turns well. Don't know why gt didn't stick with that design. Probably too expensive to carry the crimp all the way to the front. But I had a go devil boat one time and you ain't gonna beat the way a round chine turns. Period.
