 Adding extended deck question
I'm going to add an extended deck to my Gator Trax 1754. I want it to be able to remove it when I don't need it. The local welding shop is going to do it but he asked me what gauge aluminum I wanted to use. So my question is, what gauge, etc. do I need to use? I thought he would know but he tells me it's my call. What do I use?

 Re: Adding extended deck question
Depends how it's going to be braced. If the builder can't figure it out, I'd probably look elsewhere.

 Re: Adding extended deck question
1/8 would work well with a brace or two welded in the underneath side for support.
I'm guessing your going about 16" or so?
Not sure what the best way to make it removable though. I would think weld something on the sides of the hull for it to sit on then put some hard rubber on it to keep it from rattling. Something along the end of the existing deck wouldn't be a bad idea either.
Ought to brake about 2" on both of the long sides with some sort of bracing to go along with that.
Don't skimp on the bracing either. I would rather it be 20 lbs heavier than have it bow Ina year or so.

 Re: Adding extended deck question
Somebody here just got a prodigy with removable/reconfigurable decks. If you can find that thread you can see how they did it. Pretty cool.

 Re: Adding extended deck question
Here is the Prodigy with the removable deck sections. They actually connect in a track system. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=62021
