ive been building custom bikes for a long while here in california and the one thing i got to say about the big motors is billett yet stronger doesnt disapate heat like cast aluminum I'm refering to the barrels or jugs . the advantage is you can run higher pressures (compression) = h.p. but a stock evo or a s&s 88 puts out around 65-75 h.p. I would think it would be night and day compared to a briggs or kholer
great job with the oil bag that is some sound fab work dude great job !
check out Nigel Patrick's web site for some full billett sticker shock

Buster, yes I was concerned about the heat, even though its not summer I have about 5 hours on it now, coming out of the engine the oil temp went up to about 210, and the head was a little over 325, 70 outside degress the other day , when I was fully loaded and WOT for 20 minutes, my side mounted oil cooler seems to be working ok the oil tank oil temp is about 50 less than coming out of the engine, I did alot of reading and best I can tell that most people watch there oil temp on harleys at the tank, this would be accurate if they do not have a oil cooler, and looking at other air cooled Aircraft in perticular, my flight manual says that when at normal flight oil temp should be 220 and 425 head temp, thats how you adjust your lean mixture in flight this is for a lycoming 260 hp O-540 CI. I don't know if this correct but I have found that the new engine(ultima) now has 30 percent more cooling fins on the new engines. The fans on the back automatically cycle at 180 oil temp and they do turn on and off during normal riding so far, I think they will stay on during hard running in the summer though. I may not be able to stay in the mud all day and dog it out but I can't do that in my airboat neither. I don't think it will stay a cool as a briggs so I will have to use alot of common sense. ;)

you deffintly did your homework and you should be applauded for it !
if the damn v-rod wasnt intrigrated to the trane it would be a great set up since its water cooled but we gotta work with what we got . I gotta 4ohp watercooled vanguard that runs well but im allways thinking about component failure ie. water pump etc. so im going to throw together a a bottom frame kit and go from there .where did you mount the sender unit for the fan circuit relay ?

Very nice. Sounds like you did your home work. I don't know much about those engine. Any options for a high capacity oil pump to help with the oil temp problem?

Torque converter would replace the clutch. It acts somewhat like a centrifugal clutch, but it uses fluid to couple together. But there is an efficieny loss with a TQ if it does not have a lockup clutch.. But i doubt it would matter in this application.
Honestly dont know how that would work though.... Unless a snowmobiles converter is diff from a vehicles TQ in an Auto tranny.
