Make damn sure you take it for a test ride before committing to purchase. If it's a solid rig, the owner will be happy to show it off. If possible, take it thru it's paces in all aspects, deep, shallow, grassy. If not...at least in deep water.

Put a little weight in it to make sure it will get up with your planned load. Check and measure prop. Try to make sure it has original tachometer and with original hrs. Check for play at the prop. Change grease on the spot to see if any water comes out LU.

Well then you gotta take their word for it and hope you're not dealing with a crook. Dishonest people have been known to change out tachs as they do go bad. The new tach hrs start at 0 on new one's.

Polish your craft at reading character and integrity of the person who is selling. Look at the condition, hours and what conditions was it used in. Most of all try to affirm you are dealing with someone who is trust worthy and shooting straight. As others have said go run it.

Make sure you look at other things they own other than the boat.. If their truck is beat to hell and their house is run down and nasty looking walk off. The way people treat things and the way they live goes hand in hand.
