Looking at getting some pods for the back of my 16x48 grizzly with a 36hp prodrive. Any u guys recommend staying away from? I've heard good an bad things about pods, is it worth the money? I normally run a lot of vegetation on some times can get into shallow water depending on the tides.

I wouldn't waste my money on pods if you got a surface drive.

I've had pods on a southfork boat with a prodrive and they actually helped alot. I will say I lost about 2mph but the shallow water performance I gained was well worth the speed loss. Mine was a 1546 with a 27 and it squatted too much without them. I know someone that ran an outboard on a 1648 grizzly and the beavertail pods matched up good with his hull, but I don't know about mm performance on that hull with them.

Don't waste the money. The little amount that pods can help "if done right" does not outweigh the bad that hurt performance.
I had pods put on my boat, only because of it squatting in the back, then I cut them off cause they killed performance.

Do you have FPR? If so, by the time you leave enough room to swivel that lower unit around, those pods will be so narrow, they likely won't benefit you at all on a 48" hull. You'd be better off with a slightly longer and wider hull.

Good point mallards, more cons than pros. I still have the battery in the back but I'm going to relocate it to the bow of the boat and also make a split bench seat in the rear hopefully free up some weight.

A 1648 is a little small for most MM's, especially a PD36 if that's what you have. You need more surface area and front weight to draft appropriately in order to maximize your shallow water potential. Not saying a 1648 won't work but you just won't be able to get as shallow as you would with a bigger hull. Been there, done it. If you're gonna move stuff, move the fuel tank first. It's a lot easier to use battery operated headlights, etc with the battery in the rear.

Yea fuel tank is already moved up front, we'll see if moving the battery and taking some weight out from the back seat will help a little. Thanks for the info!
