Post OSHA
These people are animals. The absolute worst I have ever dealt with.
One of my employees lost his life in a freak accident on the job this morning. This day has been an absolute nightmare and it didn't help in the least to have these assholes treating us like dirt all day about fire extinguishers and other safety concerns unrelated to the accident. Especially for the guys dad and two brothers that work there too. Just more big government run amuck.
My thoughts and prayers are with this young man's family. He was 26 years old and has a wife and three year old daughter. It was a terrible tragedy, he was a good guy and a hard worker.

When OSHA comes in they don't care. Your shop already lost a life they go in with a fine tooth comb and if the company is lax on anything then its no freak accident. Iam sorry for the lost of life and my prayers are for family but OSHA in there and there gonna try to get so every buddy goes home each day

OSHA is a fucking racket. Minimum 7000$ dollar fine for anything out of place. They don't give a rats ass about the poor guy who lost his life, they just want to rake any contractor over the coals. For a small business man, a couple of violations will put you out of business. Sorry to hear about the man who lost his life. They drive around in their own cars without uniforms spying on jobs with binoculars all the time, just trying their best to write tickets on frivolous bullshit to hammer folks.

We hired Pike Consulting group (Osha compliance specialists) out of Newnan to come to our shop and teach a one day class on compliance. We are also supposed to call them if any osha violations occur on our jobs when the Osha fags show up, kind of like moderators, or lawyers I suppose. The class sucked but they are really supposed to help in the event you get investigated by osha. We are supposed to let Pike do all the talking to the osha folks.

Sorry to hear about the man, prayers to his family. OSHA is government program with a license to steal. They never come in and say everything is ok. They will always find something to fine you for. Each time you get a new inspector they will find different things wrong that the last inspector said was ok. There was one inspector that wanted the guy strapping a load on a flatbed 18 wheeler to wear a fall restraint harness. The man asked what he was going to tie off to and how he could be able to move and still have the harness catch him before he hit the ground. The inspector didn't have an answer but still said he had to do it. The solution was for the truck driver to pull off the property and strap the truck down. Idiots.

I asked the inspector today where the non-compliance was with the fatal accident and she could not give me an answer but we got hammered for having shit stored on top of our office inside the shop. The bitch was very rude and condescending. Asked smart as questions she ready knew the answer to.

All of these types of investigations always turn and point to human error. It always sad but the deceased person will be shown to be at fault.

This is why we are pricing ourselves out of business and it is going overseas.

sorry for your worker and his family. I hope they can find healing.

Can you say what exactly what he was doing or did I miss reading that?

Again, man, sorry that you all had to go through it all. No one deserves that sort of death.

Sorry for your loss, I can't even imagine how bad that's got to be for his family and all involved.
One bit of advice is to get busy with a lawyer who specializes in this sort of thing as well as OSHA . Anything you or anyone says or does will be used against you. You need to get with a professional and manage this with your employees or all of your futures will be in jeopardy. Here's the deal, if you simply pay the OSHA fine it can become an admissible in court years down the road as an admission of negligence or ill will should you face a civil suit from the surviving family later on. It's a very touchy time and OSHA preys on emotion getting a ton of testimony from grieving and shocked people babbling hoping to use what they gather from people who are in a bad state of mind against you, as all are wanting to just get through something and make it go away. It's wise to spend the money now and handle it properly or you may face bigger troubles down the line and could find yourself in court with an attorney saying to the jury that you already admitted guilt in this persons death by paying the fine to OSHA, so we are really just here to determine a settlement amount. Pm me if I can help ( I'm in the construction industry and I have some national contacts for dealing with OSHA ). It's a horrible situation, but you have to cover your butt.

Always video OSHA, and spend a lot of time documenting their credentials, then you can do a bit more. They aren't accountable unless you learn to make them such. learn what to say and what not to say as well as what your employees need to say. Do this and they'll go bother the next guy
