Post New to me godevil 20hp lt
So I just picked up a 20 hp godevil off of cragslist and have a few questions.

1. the guy has a grease gun attached to the shaft 24/7 and i have never seen that before. Its that weird or normal?

2. What should the prop size be?

3. how bad can the lower seals and bushings get before something bad happens?

4. What other kinds of prop Brands and sizes do I have for better prices or performance?

Motor is a 1998 and runs perfect. anyone that upgraded the bracket can you please tell me the differences besides the 360 turn ability?

Weird.
9x5
Very bad.
Gd, mb, bw, hill, 9x6 will be a tad faster, but 9x5 is perfect for it.
Can't answer for sure, but probably nothing

The grease gun is just a way of life owning a Longtail. I slept with one on my bedside table next to my pistol. I just think he's prepared, not weird. As far as the prop goes, I saw the best overall performance with a 9x4 with a little added cup on my 20hp. Let that little Engine wind and it'll actually carry a decent load too. Keep the seals in good shape and that thing will last as long as you will.

You liked more cup on the x4 rather than the pitch on the x5? I find that interesting. We never used an x4 because the 5 did so well.

Yep, the 9x4 with some added cup dug like a mofo and toted a load nicely. The 9x5 did really good solo or lightly loaded but any significant weight would kill the topend. The x4 unloaded would run about 20mph at 4300RPM on a 1548 Weldbilt. It was a good small combo. A two man hunting load would drop it to 3900ish and 16mph. I think that's about all one can expect out of a 20hp motor.

Yeah, very reasonable loaded. We could manage that with three with a 24, so that sounds perfect. Never got speeds on the 20, because I didn't use it too much, just a couple years off and on.

Op, try the 9x4, and when it wears a little, get some cup added.

The prop that's one it is very worn and is down to 8inches and I'm getting 14.5 with 2 to 3 guys. So I hope to see great increase after a new prop. I will push towards the 9x4 but what brand is the best?

The lower seal can go out, water on the bushing, and it'll run a long time without seizing. It'll get you home. I wouldn't operate like that unless you HAVE to, but it won't leave you stranded if the seal goes out.
