 How much will it cost me to build a longtail? Hey y'all , first post here . Planning on building my first mud motor so was gonna purchase the mad mud motor plans... My ? Is excluding the motor it self, how much am I looking at to spend in parts, I can get the shaft and most of the steel for free or close to it . Just a ball park would be great. Thanks

Re: How much will it cost me to build a longtail? Good fresh clean oats that haven't already been through the horse cost a little extra. That being said it is going to cost more than you think. A good job on a first motor will probably cost more than buying commercial . Just look at it as the cost of good entertainment and enjoy it, as it can be a lot of fun.

Re: How much will it cost me to build a longtail? Yessir, the Thai kits are fine for here, but when you can build one for less than a Thai kit with a motor, and it costs less. Why not. When I get done I'll post the receipts and make you little girls quit squaking.

Re: How much will it cost me to build a longtail? Bearings from online, seals from napa. 1 5/8" id Dom tubing from welding shop. 1" tubing also. Scrap steel plates laying around. U joint from driveshaftparts.com duromax 16hp. Buddie lathes the shaft. Prop from backwater.
