 20hp godevil question
I got a 1998 20hp godevil Longtail. I took it out the other night and while I was wide open running it would randomly die on me. What are the possible problems. The oil filter also seems to be very hot and I'm not sure if that's normal or not and I think it's getting enough gas . So what could it be? Please let me know what you think.

 Re: 20hp godevil question
Does it slowly start to die, like its getting starved for fuel? Or just shut off?
Sounds like you need to take the cap off (to vent) of your gas tank. See if the bulb gets harder. That usually fixes this issue, but if you are still having issues it could be your fuel pump. It's a pretty easy fix, 2 bolts and 2 hose clamps. If you do replace the fuel pump Id go ahead and do all fuel lines and fuel filter.

 Re: 20hp godevil question
The prop is down an inch if that can change anything.

 Re: 20hp godevil question
If it dies everytime the prop is lowered it could be the low oil shut off, have you checked the oil or sensor? Is you ignition switch and connections all good?
I have a 1998 16hp. Had an issue like that the other day. I had installed a new choke rod, it wasn't tight enough and the vibration would rattle it open and choke it out. Might be worth ruling out as well.

 Re: 20hp godevil question
If it's only doing this at full throttle it sounds like a fuel issue

 Re: 20hp godevil question
I noticed on my 15hp go devil I got a new tank & new fuel line with primer bulb. Mine did the same thing even on the engine stand with a new fuel pump & new lines. What ended up fixing it was shortening the fuel line (harder to suck) as much as you can. The longer line seems to be harder to keep primed. Also make sure there is no oil leaks because that's psi loos that would push on the diaphragm in the fuel pump. I fixed small oil leak & shortened fuel line to only the amount needed & its ran perfectly ever since. Hope it helps.

 Re: 20hp godevil question
I added an electric fuel pump and problem was solved.
