Post Winching out off spud poles?
Just saw a review of the Pro-drive tdx, where the dude said its possible to stick the spud poles in the mud and then pull yourself out with your winch. Has anyone done this? I would thing the winch would just bend the spud poles over.

Its all placement. I've winched myself off dry ground before with my GD push pole and didn't bend it all.. If you drive it in the ground far enough and put the winch cable as far down to the bottom as you can it will work as long as its not a fiberglass pole.

Just as Quack said. If you have 2 spuds and a pushpole, push all 3 in the mud at a 45 away from the boat. Tie a hitch on the first, run the rope tight to the 2nd, tie a hitch around that, and repeat for the third. The rope should be as close to the ground as possible. Hook your winch rope to the closest one near the ground. The more poles the better. Carry couple extra piece of PVC and use that for anchor poles too.

Anyone ever use a anchor ? I'm always seeing them at garage sales for cheap. Figured it would be no big deal if I could t retrieve it. But then again I'm leaving an anchor out in the marsh.

Looks like that would work great if your near land, but what if your stuck in the middle of a pond in soft mud ? Revert back to using the spud piles ? If so I'll need to have an arsenal of spud poles for my boat .

A good spud or push pole will work fine for soft bottoms. But hell if its that soft you should be able to drive right? The link I posted would work awesome on a solid bottom. It has a post driver built into it so it would work pretty good

I have done similar over sand with 2 people 1 guy drives a spud pole or Cajun anchor in the sand about a foot in about a 60ish degree angle with the top pointed away from the boat then place the hook over pole and stand on it while holding the top like your digging a hole with a shovel. Other guy works the winch. Pole comes out with minimal force no tools required. I pulled my beaver tail 18 x 48 about 50 yards over dry sand no water once this way at the wax.
