I have a GT1648 and a GTR 25 with the fuel tank in the front. It has lost its prime and trying unsuccessfully to draw the fuel to the motor in back. Does anyone have any suggestions. I have flat wore my hands out pumping the damn bulb. I have tried the fuel vent on the tank open and closed....

Have your fuel lines collapsed on the inside?

Hold your finger on the end of the hose when you let off the bulb, off when you squeeze. Keeping the end of the hose lower than the tank will help too. Once you get it to the bulb, you'll have no prob. Also, check for air leaks in the line, and the pickup in the tank is still attached.

Yep. To get it primed past the bulb. I have seen the bulbs get jacked up where the valves weren't sealing, and that's why prime didn't hold.

Make sure no filter/water trap is between bulb and tank.Some of these dumbass rookies do that!

My boat was rigged at the GT Factory. It was done right and the fuel line is not collapsed.....not even a year old. I am not sure what the reason is though. sitting too long is when it happens. I didn't run it for a couple of months and this happened before.....finally got it primed but I can't remember how I had the vent on the tank.

Get a better primer bulb. I have mine like that with no problems. My bulb is hanging between the motor and transom then a water trap thingamajiggy then 15' of hose to tank. This is my second boat like this, 7 years strong between the two.

Undo the hose at the tank and hold your finger on that end(suction) then pump the bulb. If it's working correctly it will stay collapsed till you remove your finger.

If it doesn't stay collapsed you need a new one. They're about 30$ for a ethanol friendly on Amazon. I think mine is a moeller.

I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but that's how mine is. There is a check valve in the primer bulb that goes bad. Check it like I stated in my above post. If it stays collapsed with your finger over it then maybe switch it.

The only time I really think it matters and could make a difference is when you put a new filter on and the air causes you problems. Once it is full of fuel it should not matter at that point bc it's a closed system free of air.

If you run tank out of gas you will not get it primed!!Think about it dumbass!

Ok. I thought I would post an update. I hauled it home from my Dad's in Liberty. I had the vent completely shut off so the gas was really shook up and under pressure in the tank. I tried several pumps on the bulb to no avail.

I decided to cut the line just above the bulb so that I could do the finger over the end trick........not needed lol. As soon as I clipped the line the pressure forced the fuel down the line and all over me. Haha. Reattached the bulb and it is working just fine. Thanks for all the help.

I did a thourough check on my fuel system and discovered my problem. When I installed the water trap, I tefloned the fittings but didnt screw them all the way in, trying to avoid cracking the plastic cap where they screw in. I started seeing gas on my transom around the mounting area. I screwed the fittings all the way in until the shoulders snugged up and the primer bulb started working and I'm not seeing the bleed down any more, either. I left the original inline filter on so I can see any bubbles. There aren't any now.
