 Oil galley O-ring
Looking for a little help.
Replacing the case gasket on a 23hp briggs, it is recommended to replace the o-ring on the oil pump.
I have a new o-ring for the oil pump but not sure on taking the pump apart.
I assume you need to remove the plastic gear that runs the pump and o-ring is behind the pump? How does the plastic gear come off? Let me know if I am going the wrong direction on this please.
PS Do you guys use a former gasket/permatex or just replace the case gasket dry?
Thanks

 Re: Oil galley O-ring
i dont know about a o ring on the pump, but if your talking about the oil galley o rings they go on the case surface by where your filter goes. There should be two holes there where oil passes through, the o rings go there.

 Re: Oil galley O-ring
Here is the diagram from the oil pump (part number 273)
Just not sure how the o-ring is installed.

 Re: Oil galley O-ring
The plastic gear doesn't come off, there should be 2 bolts on the back of the crankcase cover that hold the pump on. The other poster is right the o rings your looking for are the oil galley o rings that go where the oil passages are from the pump to the filter and back through the cover to the rear bearing. The only time the pump o ring needs to be replaced is if you remove the pump, as far as I know.

 Re: Oil galley O-ring
Don't see why that o ring would need to be replaced, unless disassembled. As for gasket, you need to buy another as it is a shim needed for the crank bearings. Permatex is used with gasket for best result

 Re: Oil galley O-ring
The oil galley o rings do need to be changed each time the case is removed. They aren't really o rings, they are taller and compress when the case is installed .
