How do you guys think a 35 swomp would go on a 1648 riveted flat bottom. I was more concerned about the weight of the motor. Would float pods be a good idea? Or just put it on and go. Thanks for the input.

This is my boat. 1648 weldbilt with a 35 swomp. Mine is the .080 hull so it should be pretty close to your riveted 1648.

Do some research on getting your swomp 35. By this I mean actually look at one before you buy it. Anyone on here telling you it's the best motor in the world doesn't run theirs much. Half of them are dealers. You know how people buy Harley's to say they own one, it's the best ever, but they only drive it 4 times a year across town? That's what you get on here. I work and play out of my boat with a swomp 35. At least 3 days a week. After 5 months use, it's garbage. They do not hold up. Great motor, only because it's a Briggs and Stratton motor, everything else sucks after a very short time. Find someone with one and check it out first. Don't take this message to hard, it's only my review of it as a working motor, my opinion only, doesn't amount to nothin.

Your opinion of your motor is valid. However, you're the only one with that issue that's piped up. There are quite a few with those motors that run them quite hard, and haven't had the issues you did. Did you ever talk to backwater or huck and get your issues solved?

Thanks for the input. I guess it doesn't have to be a swomp just something around that size and weight.

That should be a nice rig I am not a dealer just a very satisfied Backwater customer. they have been extremely good before and after the sale. if you have questions call Jake or Arlon at backwater and you will see first hand.also the guys on here are very helpful and as for the Harley reference mentioned in the other post I ride 20,000 miles a year and I like that as well.

Swompthing what has happened to the frame to make it junk? It seems like a very un-realistic review with out any pictures or facts. Not much to really go wrong with one of these frames. Im sure that they could break and have issues, but lets see it.

Also backh2o has had good reviews for ovwr 10 years and a dealer network for around 3... so to say its dealers is far fetched.

I test drove the 35 swomp and it is a quality build. I started, like most, with GoDevil, had three of those, fine product, but morphed to MudBuddy because it was an improvement and my 2004 has been great, but I will have no hesitation getting a BackH20 next. I believe it is the new paradigm in longtail motors. Based on present market cost, materials, reliability, and customer service, they are the ticket! There are lemons and there is abuse and defects and so on, but the swomp line is very good.

I've ran the hell out of mine. , I tried to have this guy pm me to help him out . 6 posts. , all downing backwater, go figure . If it's a legit claim, You might have a lemon , don't you want it fixed?? .I'd want proof. Show us pics man . Also I'm not a dealer. Haven't made one cent off backwater. , I just believe and use their product .

I also have no stock in Backwater, hell I run a PD and came from GD. I just dont see it.

I wish I could buy a backwater. Everyone I know that has them love them. I did however get one of their props. It seems pretty solid

It's simple. get a mud motor. shoot ducks in the face.

We have 3 in our hunting group now a 35 LT a 26.5 LT and a 27SS and 0 complaints here other than the 27 is under powered for the boat it's on and the service is top noch for us

i put a 35hp SS on my 1648 Riveted jon. Please feel free to pm me with any questions. as for the guy above knocking them, not real sure what expieriences he has had with the motor or the company but call the guys up, find one to run and make your decision. The thing is top notch and Jake is great to talk to. Cant beat the service these guys offer.

Backwaters is really good I blew my 7000hd up contacted mudbuddy to get a new motor and they gave me a price about 1000 more then backwaters and that is sad since they sell about 3x the numbers of motors then backwaters! There just in it for the money. Bought over 1500 dollars or parts and took 6 weeks to get and they offered me a free hat for waiting. If backwaters ever makes a surface drive I'll be the first inline.

i love the Backwater longtail, but I think I would be with ya on if they made a SD. Id have to go with it. Love there motors, had the 10 and now the 35. bangin for sure

Looks good, fowlhabit4! What kind of speeds are you realizing on that hull? This is all good pep talk for me getting a 35 swomp on my 1648 grizzly in a couple of seasons. I agree they could probably engineer a good surface drive. My second choice is a Copperhead 23.

I'm new to the forum and have the same question. Looking at getting a Lowe roughneck 1546 and putting the 35 on it. Boat says it rated for 25hp. There is a 60 pound difference from the 26.5 to 35. Will it make that big of difference. I'm not a big guy and never have more then 2 people in the boat with no more then 30 decoys for hunting. Would I need pods or to reinforce the transom? Like I said I'm new to the forum and new to mud motors. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
