Post Shop built fuel tank
Do any of you build your own fuel tanks? I want to have one made to fit in a spot in my boat that will hold 10 gallons or so. I am not sure if that is something the local welding shop will build or are they hindered by liability issues or EPA bullsh*t.
I looked at ordering one from a place in S. Florida but they want almost $500.
Any info would be helpful because I don't know jack about welding. Wish I did but I don't.

Call some of the custom builders and ask them. I'm sure someone will build you one.

You have a fab shop around you somewhere?

I got an aluminum tank out of an old Bayliner and cut it down. Sent it to the welder and $50 later I have a 12 gal aluminum tank.

It's simple. get a mud motor. shoot ducks in the face.

The only problem metal ones tend to suffer that plastic ones don't have is the condensation with temp changes. If vented correctly, it can be avoided.

Same goes for a plastic tank correct ? If the vent is not functioning properly the plastic tank will hold condensate also.

It will, but the way metal and plastic deal with temp changes makes the metal one have a bit more issue with it. It can seem to come out of nowhere lol

It's not a huge deal, but it's something to remember so you make sure that fuel water separator is always there just in case. We always had a lot of issues with water in the gas on the pontoon boat, until my dad had the inside of the tank coated (don't ask me with what, other than it was some kind of epoxy, i don't have a clue).

Interesting, I've always just mixed the appropriate amount of marine stabil in my metal tank toys and i never had any problems

It's simple. get a mud motor. shoot ducks in the face.

I got a tank I built a few years ago not in use. Let me measure it and give you the dimensions. I will get the numbers tomorrow.
