Post Light bars, Headlights, "Swamplights" yearly rant
Turn the stupid things off!!!!! It is just like driving down the highway with your off road lights on, moron. If you can see me from half a mile away then you are blinding me. If I am sitting still flipping you the bird when you pass, it is because I am blinded and can't move until you pass and I get my night vision back. If I spot light you in the face and curse at you when you pass .... well you get the point.

That is all!!!

I agree. Can people really not see that well at night? On a dimly lit night I can drive the couple miles to my blind without ever turning a light on. Do you really need a 36 inch light bar to go a quarter mile from the ramp?

I shut my light off when other boats are coming. When I'm on he open water I usually shut my lights bar off as well. Sorry but I'm running with my light bar on down the bayou to my lease. Even with a light bar it can be difficult to see the oyster reefs. I jumped one goin all of 30 last year ( but Pickering moment especially knowing you got a hard left to make after you land ) I only have a 20 min ride but it's down an oxbow . Go 10 miles to go 5 type of ride.

I completely understand that Hernaja. I hunt on a giant shallow lake that is wide ass open and the only thing you can run into is a duck blind. I'm talking about why you would need 4 different light bars on your boat for that and have them all running to go 1 mile from the ramp type thing.

I'm with duck hunter on this... I have never been in "wide open places" with my boat before daylight.. Back before light bars it was all q beam but by god if your q beam crapped out your best bet would be to sit tight and wait until daylight. I go about 25 feet between either a tree or a stump. Hell we have lakes in my parts that you will hit (lots of) stumps in 10+ feet of water.

My lights are off in wide open areas. What pisses me of is the ass that only has A tiny flash light and no running lights.

It's been rumored that they are outlawed while driving in channels because it distorts your running lights.

I don't have one but hunt in a boat that has one and they are definitely nice when running stumps but I never meet anyone going in the opposite direction. If I did I would turn them off.

I treat my light bar like the brights on the truck. If someone's coming, shut it off. With that being said, I only run an 8" bar and it lights up every bush, stump, branch, etc that's in my way. Why do some guys feel the need to have huge light bars?

The guys I am talking about are running an almost straight North/South canal. Most guys are going South in the morning but not all. Long before they can see me, I can't see well enough to continue safely. It would be like running your high beams on a straight road and blinding a guy driving at you with parking lights only. You won't know you are blinding him until it is too late.

Hunted with an ex-Coastie a few weeks ago. He told me they set up down in Venice (I think) a couple of years ago and stopped everyone using lights.

This argument can be applied to lifted and leveled trucks, and people that leave their high beams on when traffic is oncoming. Let's outlaw that too, because being blinded at 55mph on the highway is much worse, and a lifted truck is serving much less purpose than a light bar on the water. It's inconsiderate and dangerous to blind someone coming towards you on the water, but making it illegal, and writing tickets? Really? Lol. Thanks for the entertainment.

Lifted/leveled trucks and trucks hauling crap and not adjusting their lights down some is a peeve of mine. And before someone asks.... Yes, if I'm towing something that will change my lights point of aim enough to blind drivers, I adjust mine, every time. It takes 2 freaking minutes.

A 20" bar is plenty for a boat. You're not going 60, also, if you point them down a tad, it won't blind folks quite so bad, and it cuts fog better.

Or just buy air bags for the rear and you won't have any sag. My old truck was on 38s and I had HID's with projectors and even when towing something heavy I never got flashed. But if you run where you need them then by all means turn them on. There's no sense in being unsafe, but no reason to be inconsiderate to others.. I'm talking about a guy that puts in where I do that literally has 2 36 inch bars stacked on top of each other on the bow of his boat. We're on a lake with 0 stumps. No need for that non sense. It's the same type of person though that backs down the ramp with his brights on so no one else can see to put in. So he's a real winner all the way around. But some people are just dicks and there's not much we can do about it.
